THE CITY

Finding the sewers to be no help to their escape plan, Glenn and Morales came back to the surface with gloomy expressions, they had been desperate to find a way out of the city but now it seemed that they were doomed. Not only had the sewers been hijacked by the dead but inside the store, the rock had broken through the first layer of glass doors and walkers were now banging against the only barrier between them and the living. It wouldn't take them long before they had shattered the next panel and then the group would be an easy target for the walkers. Hearing the shattering of glass, Rick and Andrea jumped into action to see what had happened, their hearts dropped to their stomachs when they saw what had happened but were glad that the last barrier was holding for now; it gave them a little bit of time to prepare.

"What did you find down there?" Rick asked the two men that had returned from their trip below, hoping that they would give them a positive answer and they hadn't wasted their time.

"Not a way out." Morales shook his head, a pained expression on his face as he wondered whether he would ever see his family again, the odds didn't seem in his favour.

Andrea felt her whole body shaking as she stared at the walkers hitting the glass angrily. "We need to find a way...soon."

Knowing that there was no time to sit around and pray for a way out, Rick took control of the situation which was something he had always been good at. Being a leader was part of his job and although he had never dealt with the walking dead before, he knew how to handle high pressure situations, he could keep calm when facing the unknown. He stood on the edge of the rooftop, using the binoculars that the group had scavenged to take a look at the city below; yes, the place was crawling with walkers but there was hope that maybe he could find something useful amongst the dead. Rick passed the binoculars over to Morales and pointed to a particular section of the city that he had discovered from their position. "That construction site, those trucks...they always keep keys on hand."

"You'll never make it past the walkers." Morales warned him, knowing that this plan would never work and there was too many in the street to get around them.

"You got me out of that tank."

Glenn shrugged at the comment, knowing more about the dead than the sheriff that had only just woken up in this world; he had more experience and he knew what he was talking about. "Yeah, but they were feeding, they were distracted."

"Can we distract them again?"

"Right, listen to him, he's onto something." Merle jumped into the conversation, still wanting his own voice to be heard despite being the one handcuffed to a pipe because of his behaviour. "A diversion, like on Hogan's Heroes."

Jacqui rolled her eyes at his constant interruptions. "God, give it a rest."

"They're drawn by sound, right?"
