****** TRIGGER WARNING - SELF HARM ******

❄️❄️❄️

"Okay kids, today is the snowman building contest! The first, second and third place winners will be receiving a cash prize!" The principal said through a big megaphone. All the kids, that chose to participate anyways, were in the football field of the school, bundled up and ready to build their snowmen.

I rubbed my hands together, trying to mentally prepare myself for the activities ahead. I peeked over at Ryker and he looked bored as usual.

He really irritates me when he does that. Hell have a blank face one second, and then be super mad at me the next. It's so confusing, he's completely unpredictable. It's making me second guess becoming friends with him.

"Alright kids! On your mark, get set, go!" The principal yelled, sending the kids into a frenzy. I picked up some snow in my hand, starting to create the bottom largest ball of snow. Ryker watched me for a few moments, but then finally decided to stop spacing out and start helping me.

We made the giant snowball in silence, but I could see him looking at me in my peripheral vision. I locked eyes with him, fully expecting him to turn away, but he didn't. We just stared at each other. His eyes looked brighter from the sunlight bouncing off of the snow, drawing me in. His nose and cheeks were pink, but mine probably were too.

"Your cheeks are pink." I commented in a teasing tone. He turned a brighter, pink looking away from me.

"Shut up, I'm cold." He said simply. I nodded, continuing to build the snowman in peace.

We got the bottom part done, but my hands felt like ice cubes. For some reason, my dumb ass forgot to wear gloves today, and forgot we'd be handling snow, and underestimated how hard it would be to build a snow man.

I breathed on my freezing hands, rubbing them together frantically to create some type of warmth.
"Are you cold?" Ryker asked suddenly.

"Nah I'm hot out here in the cold winter weather." I said sarcastically. He rolled his eyes, grabbing my hands with his gloved ones. He rubbed them, and I can't lie, it didn't help that much since his gloves were wet and cold from handling the snow. But it's the thought that counts.

"Thanks, that feels a lot better." I said, looking up at him and smiling. He smiled lightly, taking his hands away from mine.

"Alright, let's finish this before we both freeze over." Ryker said, picking up some more snow, creating the midsection of the snowman.

After a lot of hard work, and extremely freezing hands, we finished the snowman. We gave his stick arms, and Ryker even found a few rocks in the snow to make the face out of. We had walked over to the bleachers where some other kids were also taking cover underneath as they waited, watching the rest of the kids finish building.

"Hey." Ryker said randomly, turning to me. I looked as him, and he was nibbling his bottom lip nervously. His cheeks were still flush red from the cold, and a few small flakes of snow were stuck in his lashes.

"Hmm?" I hummed, shoving my hands in my pockets to warm them up. I really should've worn gloves.

"You wanna hand out today?" He asked lowly. Again?

"Yeah." I said. "Can I ask you something though?"

"Yeah."

"Why have you been asking me to hang out these past couple days, not to sound rude or anything, but you're one of the most popular guys in school. Do you have any other friends?" I asked. He could be hanging out with literally anyone else right now, any cheerleader he wanted, but he's with me. Why?
