Jess pulled up outside the house falling over after getting out of the van to quickly, tripping over her own feet due to forget that that was a height to the car and she had to step down.
As she knocks on the door she can hear Joyce yelling at someone, probably on the phone, on the phone to someone called Cynthia, calling her a bitch which made Jess smirk slightly but masked it with a serious face when she heard the click of the door opening to Jonathan.
"Oh." His face fell.
"What? Not happy to see me?" She smirked joking.
"No. No. It's just I told my Mum to call Hop, meaning the police."
"Oh, well I'm here now, probably the best person to ring np doubt my brother is somewhere in a woman's bed drunk out of his mind.... you didn't need to know that." Jess shook her head embarrassed. Before Joyce swung the door as far as it went grabbing Jess's hand once again making her heart race dragging her in.
"Joyce what's wrong?" Joyce tried to get her words out but her sobs interrupted her.
"Mum i told you, you need to calm down."
"No! No Jonathan! I will not calm down! My boy called me! Even if he didn't call me himself it was him!!" Joyce screamed at him before bursting into tears again.
"Okay Joyce just try to breathe and explain what happened." Joyce caught her breathe and held Jess's hand in comfort as she went over the story of what happened and how she heard Will's breathing down the phone.
"Okay right I'll do what I can."
"Can you trace it? The phone call to see who made the call?" Joyce rambled.
"I don't know hun but I promise you I'll do what I can." Jess rubbed the back of Joyce's hand with her thumb, both the act of affection and the nickname making Joyce's heart flutter.
"Joyce I know it's gonna be hard to try, but try and get some rest I'll stay here and do what I can with the phone call."
"Okay." She stuttered, before going into her room as Jess looked at the phone that was attached to the wall, nearly burnt to a crisp. "You should get some rest aswell. I know you've been doing a good job taking care of your Mum you deserve a good sleep." She smiled at Jonathan before he wishes her goodnight before going into his room.
Jess detached the phone from the wall and take it apart to see if the inside was damaged, which it was, like the outside nearly completely burnt to a crisp.
"Shit." She sighed as she walked out to the sofa getting her walkie out trying to contact Hopper. "Hop? Hop? Asshole." She groaned turning her walkie off.
She got her little notepad out and made a small mind map on the paper to try and figure out what could have caused the phone incident. Before she knew it her eyes was subconsciously closing, before falling asleep with her head resting on the edge of the sofa having sat down on the floor to reach the table.
Joyce gave up on trying to sleep and walked out to try the phone again thinking that Jess had left, she looked confused to see the phone detached. Joyce moving round made Jess stir awake groaning, rubbing her eyes startlingly Joyce.
"Sorry. I thought you went."
"Mmm no I wanted to stay here to try and figure out what's happened to this bloody phone." Jess lifted it up to gesture that she had detached it, as Joyce walked round the couch and sat down beside her, however on the sofa.
"Thank you." She spoke out of nowhere as Jess turned to look at her.
"What for?" Jess furrowed her eyebrows.
"Not judging me. For not saying 'Joyce you've gone mad you couldn't have heard Will's breathing down the phone.' or 'How do you know it's Will?!' I really appreciate it."
"Hey." Jess stood up and sat next to Joyce holding her hand that was rested on the edge of the sofa. "I'm never going to judge you. Besides I'm the one that's more likely to go mad before you." Jess joked making Joyce chuckle as she tightened her grasp on Jess's hand. "And you're his Mum. No matter who gets to be with him in the future or his friends, you're always going to be the person who understands him the best. You're his mother. You carried him for nine months. You are the closest relationship he has. A mother would know her son's breathing."
"Thank you." she sniffles. "Again that means a lot." She smiled at Jess with teary eyes as Jess pulls her into a hug. Joyce pulling her legs up to her chin as she rested her head against Jess's chest, Jess rubbing her back soothingly, as Joyce bunched up Jess's cardigan in her hand pulling her in close as she can. Hiding her face in the rest of the cardigan being embarrassed from crying infront of her.
Joyce was feeling content whilst Jess was having a full blown panic. She felt like her heart was going to pound out of her chest any minute. The silence was killing her as she rubbed Joyce's back soothingly, resting her chin on the top of Joyce's head.
"Jess? Jess you there? Jess where are you, you're not home." Hopper's slurred drunk voice came from the walkie talkie rested on the table startlingly the two women apart.
"Oh for fucks sake not again Hop." Jess sighed picking up the walkie reassuring Hop that she was coming up now as Joyce stood up smoothing out her outfit in awkwardness. "I'm sorry I gotta go. I'll be back in the morning."
"Nonense you've done enough." Joyce scoffed opening the door for Jess as she grabbed her key.
"Bullshit. I've hardly done anything, I'll go to the shop and get you a new phone." Jess smiled before walking to the van waving at Joyce before driving off. Joyce smiling uncontrollably after she closed the door.
