Jess was looking round for some food for herself but also to bring over to the Byer's house for Joyce just to help her out for a while thinking Joyce might now want to go out in her state, so she might as well help with stocking up on her groceries.
The bell rung indicating that someone walked into shop which didn't usually catch anyone's attention certainly not Jess as she had her walkman playing music through her headphones that was until she could've sworn someone saying Joyce's name. Jess took her headphones off to see Joyce storming through the aisle's, rambling on how she needed a new phone. Jess rushed over to the till where she was about to pay.
"Uh, yeah, you know, uh... I gave Jonathan all my money for the uh copies for the posters."
"Here." Jess placed down a 10 dollar bill on the counter. "How much more do you need?"
"Uh it's $22.56." Jess got the rest of the money as Joyce watched her pay with a smile. The man behind the counter putting the new phone in a bag and passing it to Joyce. She smiled at Jess once more before saying a small thank you before Jess went to the stuff she left in the aisle and paying for it.
Jess riffled through the carrier bags to find the chocolate she had bought so she could eat some not noticing Joyce sat down on the bench outside the shop standing up instantly when Jess came out the shop.
"Hey."
"Oh hey I thought you would have gone home."
"No I wanted to stay to say thank you."
"You already did." Jess chuckled.
"I know but I felt like I didn't thank you probably."
"There's no need seriously." Jess smiles at her reassuringly as a comfortable silence falls between the two of them.
"Can you come back with me?" Joyce's voice shook.
"You don't have to ask me twice." Jess chuckled as Joyce smiled before they both got in her car. Jess followed her home as Joyce set up her new phone as Joyce pushed the couch forward so both her and Jess could sit on it. Jess whilst all of this was happened was making coffee for Joyce and tea for herself. She walked back to Joyce sat there staring into space with the phone rested on her lap.
"Hey here you go." Jess passed Joyce the cup of coffee as Joyce took a sip out of it before placing it on the floor beside the couch. Jess took the seat next to her as they both sat there waiting for the phone to ring. Jess not saying a word about it, letting Joyce do what she wanted and didn't judge her for it . Joyce loved her for that.
Before they knew it they knew it hours had gone by and they had both fallen asleep, Jess's head fallen onto Joyce' shoulder. The phone ringing startled Joyce awake as she stood up swiftly which woke Jess up as Joyce answered it. "Hello? Hello? Who is this? Will?" Joyce stammered. Joyce gasps as she takes Jess's hand in shock squeezing it tightly. "Will it's me. Talk to me. I'm here. Just tell me where you are honey. I can hear you please." Joyce continues to ramble until she screams and throws the phone from her.
"No. No.No. No." She check the phone but it's dead and burnt like the last one. "No." She sobs shrinking down to the floor as Jess sits down to the floor and Joyce leans back into her. Jess wraps her arms round Joyce comforting her as she lets out her sobs.
Just then the lights all around them begin to flash. Joyce stands up whimpering still holding onto Jess's hand as Jess follows her as Joyce follows the lights leading herself and Jess to outside Will's room. The loud music from his room startled both women. Joyce goes towards the door but Jess sense her hesitancy so Jess walks infront of her opening the door, squeezing Joyce's hand in comfort when she felt her hand shaking in her grasp.
Just then the lamp in his room flashes continuously before the brightness increase and increase before it becomes nearly blinding before everything turns off including the music. "What the hell?" Jess mumbles to herself which was cut out by Joyce scream Jess looks towards where Joyce was looking to see something trying to get out from the other side of the wall.
"Mother-" whatever it was behind the wall suddenly growled. "Go. Go. Go." Jess yelled at Joyce as they ran out of her house. Jess scrambling to get her keys out of her pocket getting into the car, Joyce getting into the passenger seat. As the engine started Joyce placed her hand on Jess's to stop her.
"Wait a second."
"Joyce you have got to be crazy to go back in there."
"Then I'm crazy!"
"Well you're not going in alone." Jess took a deep breath before getting out the car and joining Joyce in going back into the house.
