<Y/n's Pov>

Y/n's Loft, Midtown Manhattan

Saturday, 6:42 p.m

Suddenly a floorboard creaked from the staircase, from the hallway. Jace's eyes darted to the door and slowly trailed out into the doorway, I followed close behind him but not close enough. The same second full body had left the loft, the door slammed shut and remained sealed. I banged on the door and Jace did too, I could hear him.

"Y/n! Y/n!"

"Jace! I can't open it! Jace!" I yelled.

"There's no use, he ain't getting through that door." I spun at the voice which came from behind me and sat in a chair, the only still intact chair, sat a man. He had thick dark hair which sat in curls on top of his head. I pressed myself up against the door and he chuckled darkly, the noise of Jace trying to bang down the door still pressing on. My eyes shot to the dagger I had left on the floor by the window when I had taken the necklace out of the floor.

Why did you leave it there you moron? I scolded myself.

"So you're the Cartwright girl huh? Valentine's been looking for you." His voice was low and thick.

"Yeah well you and him can piss off because I'm not going anywhere." I spat at him and he seemed to smile.

"Just like your old man, he never could take orders either." He stood and took a few steps towards me.

"Fuck you!" I put out my hands to shove his chest but he grabbed my hair.

"And a fiery spirit just like your mother." He yanked back his hand and my head was thrown back, I spat in his face and he threw me towards the window. My small body went tumbling to the floor, and my head smacked on the hardwood, sending my vision swimming and my eyes closed. I clutched the dagger Jace had given me behind my back and felt hope swell in my chest. "It were those two things about them that got them killed." He said and I wanted to kill him, I had to kill him.

Get closer. Get closer. Get closer asshole. It was so hard to keep my eyes closed but I clutched the handle of the weapon so hard as if I were worried it was going to disappear .

"Y/n! Cartwright! Y/n!" I heard Jace yell and suddenly he stopped banging but I heard the man's heavy footsteps coming closer.

"Seems your boyfriend's given up. Good thing too, he was getting annoying." He chuckled and put his hand on my shoulder to pick me up but I sprang back into motion. I swerved, my eyes wide and plunged the razor blade of the dagger as hard as I could and by luck it found home in his neck.

I stumbled back and blood poured from his neck, spilling from his mouth, choking him. He pressed one hand to the wound, as it would help and the other he kept outstretched in my direction. His limbs went slack and he crumpled to the floor like a puppet with his strings cut, his eyes wide and glassy, they were black and emotionless. He was dead.

"See you in hell asshole. Fuck you." I slid down the wall pulling my legs to my chest, my eyes unmoving from the body in front of me. My hands began to shake and I pressed them to my chest, looking down at the dark rippling red pooling in front of me, still creeping closer. I tried to slow my rapid breaths but they mimicked the quick pace of my heart which thundered in my ears.

I killed him. I killed him. I killed him. I killed him. I killed him. I killed him. I killed him. I killed him. I killed him. I killed him. I killed him. I killed him. I killed him. I killed him. I killed him. I killed him.

The velvet river poured from his neck, meandering effortlessly as it carried away any hope of his survival, staining my memory and all that it touched with the image of his corpse.

A figure dressed all in black opened the door and I flinched instinctively away, moving further into the corner but when I saw Jace.

"Y/n?" He said softly. I felt- I felt. I stood and threw myself in his arms. Looking over his shoulder, he saw he had engraved one of the runes in the surface of the door to open it. He hadn't left me. He had tried.

"I'm so happy to see you, Wayland." And I hugged him even tighter, afraid if I let go, he might disappear but he hugged me back assuring me he wasn't going anywhere.

"Are you alright?" He said into my hair, not pulling away from the embrace. When I didn't reply he simply held me tighter and I'm grateful he did.
