The tattoo was finally finished. Ember stared at it satisfied. She grimaced at the thought of when she tatted her ex. Her face scrunched up, but she quickly relaxed remembering that she is in a better place with herself now, and that she has improved greatly.

"This is the best tattoo I have done so far." Ember analyzed it deeply.

"I have to agree." Sevika said, doing the same.

Ember held a subtle smile, somewhat in a daze from her work. "Where is the cleanser and plastic wrap so I can wrap it?"

"In that cubby over there." Sevika pointed with her metal arm, watching the girl as she went to retrieve it with a smile planted on her face.

Ember disinfected the area she tatted until it was sterile enough to wrap it. Her fingers trailed down the film that was secured on Sevika's forearm.

"Can I take a picture of it tomorrow?" Ember asked as she stared at Sevika. "I want to post it!"

Sevika shrugged with a nod, and that was enough for Ember.

Ember began cleaning up and eventually, Sevika began to help as well. Ember stared at the clock to notice that it was already 9:00pm. She sighed, hurrying up. Damn time flies.

Her phone rang and she immediately knew it was her mother. In a haste, she picked it up and answered.

"Yeah mom?"

"Well I was expecting a call when you got home, and I didn't get that." Her harsh, motherly tone present.

Ember was annoyed, but she tried her best to be respectful. "Well I'm not home yet. I had a tattoo gig my first day, and it was a big one. I just finished. I'll be heading home now."

"Ember. You can be out there late at night tattooing thugs. They can take advantage of you. I don't even know why you chose to do it down there. You could've just stayed home with me and still do something art related-"

"Mom. I do not want to hear it. I am 20 years old. I've been doing my thing for 2 years now. I know what I want to do and I'm going to do what I want to do. Not what you want to do. I know how to protect myself. I know who to call when I am in danger. And I damn sure know how I want to live my life. Im so sorry that you're incapable of letting your daughter live her life and calling it being a 'mother' as if that's defendable. I'll text you when I get home. I love you. Bye." Ember ended the call before her mom could even speak up. She sighed, practically throwing her phone, but she restrained herself, only gently tossing it away.

Sevika watched the frustrated girl, and she was slightly amused and entertained by it.

Ember took note of that and crossed her arms at the older woman. "Whats with the smile? You amused or sum?" Her accent becoming stronger as she spoke each word, but her attitude was just as present.

"It was never my attention to make you this comfortable to let you speak to me like that. Don't forget who you're talking to." Sevika got close to the girl, staring down at her.

"Just because you the boss of me doesn't mean I'm not allowed to call you out." Ember spat out.

"Little girl, you haven't even see me take full control, would you like me to do that? I can cut this shit out right here, right now." Sevika stared deep into Ember's eyes.

Ember rolled her eyes and walked away, a huff escaping her mouth. She picked up her phone from where it landed and walked out of the room. The tattoo parlor was empty and darker, but there were a few lights still on to see.

Ember stared out the door, lights from buildings peeking inside. Cars bustling. Heavy smoke layered the area to the point that you would think it was a fog. Music blasting and figures moving with a haste.

She sighed knowing that it would be better if she didn't go home alone because she knew her capabilities, but it would be safer to have some form of protection, and Sevika's demeanor provided that.

Thinking it through, she decided to apologize for her uncalled-for attitude, and hope that maybe Sevika would still take her home. Ember turned around swiftly, walking straight into Sevika's chest. Her eyes widened as she looked up slowly to meet those piercing eyes.

"Holy shit, I did not feel you behind me." Ember blurted out, forgetting to move back.

"Hm.. oblivious to your own surroundings, no wonder your mom is on your ass. Maybe you should listen to her." Sevika spat out.

Ember rolled her eyes again. "Literally pushing buttons for no reas-."

Sevika hit the door behind Ember, making her jump back against it. "Roll your eyes at me again and I'll make them stay that way."

Embers eyes once again widen at the comment. She knew that this should've angered and scared her at the same time, but she couldn't help take her words into a sexual meaning. Ember never even realized how close they were. She shook her head trying to get her mind out of the gutter.

Her eyes closed as she laid her head back, taking in another deep breath. Opening her eyes, a subtle sigh escaped. "Okay, listen, I apologize for throwing my attitude onto you. Im not mad at you, I'm just mad at my mother. Also, it's late and it's been a long day, so we're both tired and cranky. Can we just, let this go, please?"

"I'm not dumb Ember. I know you're scared to go home by yourself." Sevika kept her stance, not breaking eye contact.

"I am scared, Sevika. Cause instead of being taught how to protect myself, my mom sheltered me and forced me to be "rebellious". I only learned from experience, but I'm smart enough to know how to get through things and at least keep myself afloat. So yes, I do want you to take me home still, but that isn't contradicting my sincerity or my apology."

(I like switched to second person randomly so that is what the rest of the chapters are looking like T^T)

Sevika sucked her teeth and created space between you and her.

You huffed in return. "Listen, don't take me home. I'll be fine."

Sevika sighed, which seemed more like a defeated growl. "Do you have your shit so we can leave?"

Shocked, you shook your head and quickly retrieved all your belongings before you met up with her at the front.
