my mom and i sat at the park bench, watching taitan and nic kick the ball to each other.

"i've never seen nic this happy" my mom says

"neither have i"

"i don't think i've ever seen you this happy"

"neither have i"

taitan was great, in my eyes he had no flaws.

"anyway, i'm meeting up with carly later. did you wanna come?"

"where abouts?"

"her house for dinner"

"oh, no thank you"

josh's mom and my mom are best friends again and i was really happy for them but the past month has been terrible. josh is friends with benefits with sarah again, which annoys me since sarah really thinks he's gonna want to date her this time when he literally left her before like she was nothing.

taitan and i have been going great, i think i may be in love. at first i kind of knew that i started to date him just to get over how i felt about josh but now i know for a fact it was worth it since we're amazing together.

"so, you up for seeing your aunt tonight?"

"excuse me?"

"while i'm at carly's, she offered to babysit nic"

"she doesn't need to, i can look after him"

"she just wants to meet him, scar"

"oh now she wants to meet him? remember when she told you to get rid of him so that you wouldn't anger my father? and how when you tried to run away with me the first time she called him?"

"she's trying to change, she just wants to have a relationship with nic"

"i'm not letting nic meet her, not on his own at least"

"so you can go with him"

and that's what i did. while my mom went to josh's house, i took nic to see my aunt, with taitan of course. my dad was an only child and my mom had two sisters, one good and one bad one. the good one was the one that took us in when we ran away for the second time, even though she was five hours away. the bad one didn't even try help us. the first time we tried to leave, she told my father we were with her, saying that our family should try to 'work things out'.

"scarlett, long time no see! you've gained weight, good for you!"

lana, my spoilt rotten cousin. she was the only child and got whatever she wanted because her mom didn't believe in discipline.

taitan and i greeted my cousin, aunt and uncle while nic nervously stood behind us.

"is this little nicholas your mom has been telling us about!

my aunt kneeled down in front of nic, who held onto taitan's leg.

"oh and is this taitan your mom has been also telling us about?" my cousins asked, fluttering her eyes.

"yes, he's taitan. my boyfriend." i say, clutching onto his hand.

we walk in and all sit down in the living room. my aunt came out with a bunch of toys for nic to play with. nic just sat on the ground staring at them.

"go on" my aunt says.

"he doesn't play with those"

"why is that?"

"the only toys he's ever had were a soccer ball and a few toy cars"

"why's that?"

"because we were practically broke"
