Unknown Town II
Harper's POV
"What do you think?" I asked Wonter and gently swayed my skirt.
A crimson pope sleeve button-down blouse tucked in my black high waist long skirt paired with black boots is what I choose to wear. I tied my hair into a bun so that it wouldn't look messy. I also tied a black ribbon on my collar. I wore a casual dress to blend in with the towns folks. I didn't want them to see me as a noble or royalty. I don't want to cause any ruckus.
"Do we have to go this early?"
I was a bit confused about his question and looked at the clock. I was slightly shocked seeing how early we were. It's only six o'clock in the morning. I only smiled at Wonter. His dress was the same as I was. Casual like the town folks.
"Aren't you sleepy? You didn't sleep Harper," his voice was a bit, well, rigid but I didn't mind.
We stayed up all night— to rephrase that, I stayed up all night while I left Wonter laying on the library's couch. I spent the whole night spending my time inside the library building up a plan of what I should do.
"I can only sleep once this problem is solved."
"There's no problem in that town, Harper."
"No, there is," I said firmly to end the argument. I know he just wants to sleep. I persuaded him that he could just stay and rest himself but he insisted on coming with me.
"Your majesty, everything is ready," I smiled at Mia.
I gently caressed my horse before helping myself. After I settled myself, I turned to look at Wonter who was already on his horse before nodding at him. We'll be gone depending on the issue that we'll be able to gather. There's only the both of us along the ride. My parents do not know where I was going, I don't have to tell them since I'm not young anymore. The maids will just tell them that I've gone on a trip with Wonter, they'll believe them since it's Wonter whom I'm with.
I took a glance at Wonter when one of the palace guards raised his hands at us signaling us to halt our horses. We obeyed and watched two palace guards approach us. One stopped beside Wonter and then the other palace guard stopped in front of my horse.
"Good day my lady, I'm sorry for the interruption, but it is the palace's outright command that we should check your validation of going out of the kingdom. If you do not mind us seeing your citizen badge to identify your profile?"
I handed him my badge before pulling down the hood of my cloak. Wonter also did the same. I watched the palace guards study my badge. his eyes slowly widened in shock as he slowly lifted my badge along with his eyes on me. Speechless as he was to see me, I managed to grab my badge back from his hands.
He didn't seem to have a plan to hand over my badge back to me. He remained his eyes on me and was immediately pulled back in reality when his associate who checked Wonter tapped him on the shoulder.
Both of them bowed their heads at me, and I did the same as a token of respect.
"Apologies your royal highness, we weren't able to acknowledge your presence."
I couldn't blame the palace guards for not recognizing me since I was hiding my face behind my hood.
"It's okay Philip," I said. I could barely see another wave of shock flush on Philip's face after I mentioned his name.
I know every palace guard that serves around the whole palace. I memorize all of them. It was never easy remembering them, but I had already gotten used to it. Every day I always ask Ria, one of my ladies in-waiting, to get a copy of the new palace guards and maids assigned inside the palace including their profiles, identities, and position.
