Luna was in her wolf form running through the forest near The Shire. She was hunting prey when she heard what sounded like a group of dwarves talking. Really she hated hunting and eating in her wolf form, but she had trouble controlling her wolf half.
She lifted her nose into the air and deeply inhaled their scent. Yes, there was definitely a group of dwarves nearby. She slowly strolled through the forest, following their scent. Once she neared their location, she crouched down low in the bushes for she would not be seen. She had issues controlling her wolf self, but could still hear and understand languages she knew in her human form easily.
"Kíli you take first watch," Luna heard a deep voice say.
"Yes uncle," another voice said. He must have been the one named Kíli.
Luna watched as a young looking handsome brunette dwarf walked over to a group of rocks. He sat down on one of the rocks and began to watch the forest. Luna wondered what he was looking for.
She stayed crouched low to the ground for he would not see her. She could easily go unseen if she wanted to. But her yellow eyes did glow in the dark and the sun was beginning to rest in the distance.
"Want some company?" Another different voice asked the one named Kíli.
"Aren't you suppose to be sleeping Bilbo?" Kíli asked the other person.
Luna looked from the young dwarf to the new figure sitting on the rocks. This was obviously a hobbit, because he was much smaller and had big hairy feet.
"I was trying to sleep, but I think I heard a wolf howl." The one named Bilbo said.
Kíli raised one eyebrow as he turned to look at the hobbit. "There are no wolves out there Bilbo." He said as he turned his head back to the forest. "So no worries, you can go back to sleep."
Luna huffed out to herself. He was obviously wrong about that. Well partially wrong, Luna was actually a skin-changer who took the form of a wolf.
The hobbit named Bilbo nodded his head and walked back near the fire. He laid down on his bedroll and tried to go back to sleep. But he knew he had heard a bowl of a wolf, not that long ago.
Luna stood up onto all fours and began to stalk the handsome dwarf. She wanted to get closer to get a better look at him. She once again put her nose into the air and inhaled deeply. He smelled like a mix of earth and ale. Really he did not smell bad for a dwarf. She had heard stories of dwarves in the past.
She was told that they were smelly and all very ugly. But this dwarf was not ugly, he was actually really handsome. And he only had stubble for a beard.
Kíli's eyes darted into the bushes near the forest. He could swear he just saw a pair of glowing yellow eyes staring back at him. But now he saw nothing but bushes and darkness.
'Shit,' Luna said to herself. She had almost gotten herself caught. Then they would have thought she was a real wolf and probably would have killed her.
But Luna needed to get closer. She felt herself being drawn to this young dwarf. She could not pull herself away. She knew she would end up getting in trouble. She was suppose to return home an hour ago and she was still out in the forest.
Slowly she stalked nearer to the brunette that still sat on the large rock. Her wolf form then made a weird noise. It probably would have sounded like a light moan if she was in her human form.
Kíli head turned right to where she was standing then. 'Shit I have been seen,' she said to herself. She tried to crouch low in the bushes again, but it was too late. Kíli had seen her.
"Uncle there is something out there," Kíli yelled out to wake up all of the others.
The one with the deep voice woke up instantly and sat up. "What is it Kíli? Do we need to attack it?" The voice asked.
"I think it is a white wolf," Kíli said back to the one he was calling uncle. "It is just watching me." He said.
The deep voice let out a huff of frustration. "Kíli there are no wolves out there, especially no white ones." The deep voice said back to him.
"No Kíli is right Thorin. I heard it howl," Bilbo said as he sat up.
The one with the deep voice, that she now knew was named Thorin sighed. "Fine. we better go hunt it down. Make sure it doesn't attack us," Thorin said as she stood up.
'Shit shit shit,' Luna said to herself. She did not want to attack these dwarves and one hobbit to protect herself. Especially the one named Kíli, as she felt herself drawn to him.
Luna knew she should at that point run away, but she was frozen in her spot. She let out a loud whine as Kíli loaded his bow and walked towards the spot she was seen.
Kíli was getting closer and Luna needed to run. But all she did was lay down and whine at the brunette wolf.
"What is it doing?" A different dwarf asked as he walked near Kíli.
"I don't know Fíli. Just laying there I guess," Kíli said to a young blonde dwarf with a braided mustache.
"Kíli shoot it," the one named Thorin yelled out at him. "Before it attacks and kills us all."
Kíli sighed as he pulled back his bow and let the arrow fly. It flew through the air and into Luna's side. Her wolf form let out a long sad and painful howl as she fell over.
As soon she she fell, she instantly changed back into her human form. She was now a 5'7" long dark brunette haired woman. She was shot in the side of her stomach and was quickly bleeding out.
