"Lunge and go in go in for a bite! Remember even to use the spotting technique on fighting! And always watch where you step at the same time!" Thunder said to Snowfall as he jumped back away from her, avoiding an attack from her. It was only the fourth day of her full apprenticeship as a Warrior, and she was already so wore out. Her muscles were burning, she was out of breath and was hot from the blazing sun above. How am I supposed to keep my focus on you and my paws at the same time! I thought I could multitask! Do I just glance every now and then?
She was breathing heavily and lunged at Thunder's back leg and she would have had it, had he not moved away in a split second. She heaved out a tired sigh and panted staring at him with her head low. They'd been training all afternoon and she felt like she was getting nowhere with her training and she was trying so hard. Her muscles were burning more with each day from working them so much, and every move she made was just an endless ache all over.
"Almost had me there." Thunder told her. Snowfall flopped onto the ground stretching her paws out in front of her. Her body was exhausted from her nonstop training the past few days. She would train any chance she had- and if anything, now she had even less time with every other wolf from when she was a Healer! Her dark gray furred mentor gave her a weird look and then grinned awkwardly.
"So uh, how about we take a break now then?"
Snowfall nodded and knocked her chin into the ground. Her eye lids felt wet and heavy and she had to fight herself to keep them open. Her heart rate was running rapidly and her muscles were pounding. At this moment sleep felt like it would do her a world of good. Thunder trotted over and sat beside her. "You've been making much improvement in the past few days."
Snowfall snorted. "I don't feel like I have, I'm still nowhere near as good as the others." No matter how hard I've been trying.
"Stop comparing yourself to them, in time you'll get there."
"But I don't have time! I'll end up making us all look bad and I don't want to do that to every wolf."
Thunder grumbled an annoyed sigh. "Listen here Snowfall, you have got to stop with that attitude, you aren't going to get anywhere with one like that."
Snowfall bit her tongue back from making another retort. She just stared at her paws with frustration. Thunder walked over beneath the training rock where they were and stared up at one of the holds. What's he up to?
Thunder turned his head to her with a warm look. "I remember when me, Cedar, Ivy, Sorrel, Poppy, Adder and Birch were all apprentices, we'd come here all the time and always do something stupid or play some games we'd made up."
Snowfall flicked back an ear still gazing at her mentor. "You know, I ought to take you on a practice hunt, would you like that?"
The white apprentice jolted to her paws. "Oh yes! A real hunt!"
Hopefully I'll actually get something this time. She thought reminiscing back to the day before where she was out hunting all afternoon and missed so many things. Thunder kept on encouraging her through it though even if she would feel glum about losing the prey. She had to admit, he was good at motivating her even if it got on her nerves sometimes. Her paws were aching to just aggressively tear into something to maybe take her anger and her concealed frustration out on.
Her mentor blinked calmly at her and turned around, trotting over to the west, the direction of the river. A quick pace forward took Snowfall beside her mentor. Curiosity was ebbing her, she'd never been taken hunting to the river before. And the river was one of her favorite places in all of their territory to visit. "We're going hunting by the river?"
