Day eight of the Apprentice Journey, things could be better. Snowfall sat in thought sarcastically as she watched Juniper and a small gray and brown White River male going head to head in a sparring session. The male Apprentice had to be around Mist's age, possibly younger, and was holding his own surprisingly well for being so young against a wolf Junipers age and size.
Moth sat on Snowfall's left, surveying carefully at the two as they prowled around one another with snarls behind bared fangs.
"Ooo! A beautiful crossover dodge and snap to Junipers tail from Poplar!" Moth exclaimed in a hush only for Snowfall to hear, gazing wide eyed at the two wolves in the center of the clearing.
"Wonderful dodge Poplar! I like how you're keeping light paws for swifter movements!" Reed called to the Apprentice from directly across where Moth and Snowfall were sitting.
The day was beautiful, it was the end of the day and dusk was nearing them; Scattered clouds in the sky and a soft breeze flowed throughout the Willow Bourns.
On a typical day, Snowfall would have loved being emersed in her surroundings, accommodated with witnessing her loud mouthed Packmate get her tail battered by an Apprentice half her size. However, this day was not one of Snowfall's best, nor had the past few been.
Ever since the whole passing flowers thing between Maple and Alder, the red and white Apprentice had made it her sole mission to let Snowfall know he liked her and not Snowfall. Maple wasn't even being direct about it, she was simply feeding her belladonna berries laced with honey. I should never have told her, were the words that echoed in her head since that day.
And since Maple was beating Snowfall into the ground about it, the entire ordeal was getting to her. And worst of all, she feared it was becoming evident. Obviously Moth knew something was up with Snowfall and told her, and she vowed Moth would be the only other one to know.
Usually Snowfall would have been able to keep hidden her issues, but with Maple's recent berating, that was near impossible. On top of that, she was stressed about training Mist while questioning her own knowledge and memory on Healing, and how terrible she was doing with her own training, which only seemed to be getting worse since the 'passing flowers' day.
While being out the in territory in the following days of the incident, Snowfall had ruined their meal plans when they were tracking a lone male elk by crashing down face first into a giant ditch and scaring it away, had been defeated in every sparring session she was put into by losing focus or falling somehow, and the worst of what she'd done; Running down a hill losing control of her speed that happened to lead to a creek and had a decently high drop off and had knocked Pollen and Rue in who were standing not far from it's edge.
I'm so glad that Pollen and Rue were White River wolves and knew how to swim, otherwise that could have been way worse than it was. Why have I become extra clumsy? I hate being clumsy!
Heavy pawedness had taken over Snowfall and she was getting tired of it being rubbed in from all the wolves around her about being a walking disaster and even calling her Avalanche. Real great, can't say I don't deserve it though...
"Ooo no!" Moth gasped as she watched the gray and brown male go flying into the ground and landing on his side making Ebony bark to show this spar had a winner. Snowfall watched as the small Apprentice got to his paws shaking his pelt out, not looking to happy about the outcome.
Heh, I know the feeling.
"And that was a perfect example on how one small mistake can determine your outcome of a battle, does any wolf care to comment on how that could have been preformed better on Poplar's side?" Reed said looking around at the watching Apprentice's.
