Chapter Two : Paper boats
JOHN'S DIARY :
"Then you take this part and fold" Mike instructedI did what Mike told me to do and then a paper boat was made, it's been three weeks since we met, and my life has been constantly changing since then, Mike showed every corner of the school where I could study in peace, just a week ago we were on the school rooftop looking at the clouds, the principal almost caught us but that's a story for another time.
We were in the school parking lot, just wasting time after school. Mike looked at my paper boat, he modified some things and gave a last look at it. He moved the boat with his power into his backpack, it was still weird for me to see something like that, but Mike shamelessly would use his power to everything, he seemed free when doing it, so I never intervened. Mike has told me multiple times that he constantly uses his powers during school, but people never noticed, for example, the hole in one of the fences in the school, Mike created it. The farming ground around the town park, it was his decision to make it when no one was around.
"So, what was about the mind-trick thingy again?" I asked him.
Besides the power through his hands, according to him, his words can get through someone's head in an instant and completely change their thinking. What was more interesting is that he couldn't do that to someone like me, I didn't understand what he meant by that, and I probably never will. The Oliver fight made a lot more sense after the stuff he told me, first his powers threw Oliver away from us, and then Mike told him to leave and not say anything to anyone, all of this because of his apparently super-powers, sometimes I feel stupid writing those words but I think I just need to accept my friend have a gift.
"I explained this like five times already" He laughs as he feels the warmth of the concrete of the parking lot we were laid in "I just tell people what to do and they do it, unless they have a strong mind or whatever".
"Strong mind?" I was puzzled.
"Some people are just really mature, they have been through stuff, so I can't tell them what to do, but I'm not sure that's exactly why" Mike looked puzzled with himself this time, something I'm not even surprised about.
With these three weeks that I spent with Mike, no once was I intimidated by Mike's powers, it felt like that was something I've seen before, which is not true at all because if I was to ever see someone with powers I would definitely remember for the rest of my life, but now I guess I have someone who I won't forget so soon. As Mike got angry because his paper boat wasn't the best, I suddenly remembered how I needed to meet my grandmother, someone who I always meet when possible.
"I gotta go," I said while taking my backpack.
"Why? We have so much time left!" He replied
"I'm sorry, I need to visit my grandma, I told her I needed to see her before she starts her treatments!"
"You have grandparents" He asked " You're so lucky you have 'em!"
"Well I only have one, so I could guess I'm lucky, what about you?"
"What about me?" He wasn't paying attention to my conversation for some reason.
"What about your relatives? You have them?"
Mike looked at his surroundings and tried to drift away from making contact with me.
"John, you know, I gotta go too!" He said "You have my number right?"
"Um y-yes I do but-"
