Chapter Nine : Lovely Plateau
JOHN'S DIARY: As we reach a small town called Samon Hills, the starry sky lights the dirt roads with the few street lights that there were. There was practically no one in the streets, only one group of elderly outside a little bar right close to the entrance of the town. Mike started looking at the address he had on his hand, his eyes were wide open and his hands were sweaty. I guess meeting your sister after years of no contact at all makes you nervous.
We reached a small house at the end of a small strip of street. What was more mesmerizing was the thing behind the house, the vast desert of Arizona, Sonoran Desert, I guess I never mentioned the name of it before.
"I-I don't think I'm ready for this I-I can't!" Mike spiraled.
I quickly raised my hand to his shoulders.
"I'm sure you can!" I comforted him. "She's your sister!"
"Yeah that's exactly why..." He walks out of the vehicle.
I also stepped out of the truck and walked with Mike over to the main door of the little house. From where I was standing I could see a giant peak crossing the dark sky, it caught my attention so I stayed behind, Mike quickly called my attention so I got back to his side. Mike stood there looking at the door for a good minute, I stood there and watched his eyes move left and right looking for the confidence to reach the doorbell.
"I can't seem to move m-my hand-" Mike whispers "-I don't know what to do!"
"Wait Mike you-" I say as Mike interrupted.
"No John!" Mike shouts "You're not listening, it's b-been months, no-"
Mike space himself from the door and walks towards our truck, I could sense the nervousness rising as the ground under slowly trembles, I wanted to get close but I could feel the wind get faster, Mike goes into circles as he mumbles into something that seemed like spanish, but I was not sure, I walk myself closer to him and I could see the truck moving to the side by itself, one wrong move and Mike could wake up the entire town, but that's when things took a turn.
"Mike?" a voice came from behind.
I turned back and saw a young woman standing in her pajamas. She seemed calm even though she could see the truck moving by itself.
Mike turned himself towards the woman, he stopped moving around and focused on her, he seemed relieved.
"Julia?!" He happily shouted.
Mike ran towards Julia and hugged her firmly, they somehow started laughing, probably of how crazy their encounter is.
"Oh my God-" Julia smiled hard "-this is really happening!"
"I know, t-this is crazy!" Mike bleeds affection as his smile gets bigger and bigger every time he looks at his sister.
Julia stopped smiling as soon as she saw me standing there a few feet away from them.
"And who are you ?" She asked as Mike turned himself towards me.
"I'm john, it's a pleasure to meet you." I walked towards Julia.
"He is my friend, my best friend actually!" Mike threw those words, then it hit me what it meant.
"Oh it's a pleasure to meet you too" She shaked my hand, it seemed like she didn't trust me, nothing against that actually.
"We actually need to talk-" Mike tells Julia.
"Why don't we get inside!" She discontinues "I can make tea and prepare a place where both of y'all can sleep!"
