"Everyone please stay calm!" a man in a military uniform called out over the anxious crowd.
"Where's Spider-Man?" a man yelled.
"Yeah, where is he?" another woman asked.
"Spider-Man... Spider-Man is dead." the soldier announced, you put your hand over your mouth, he couldn't be dead.
The crowd erupted into a panicked frenzy.
"AT THE MOMENT! We have been unable to shut down Doc Ock's fusion reactor, which is causing all metal in the area to be sucked in, there have been spikes in radiation above ground which is why we are asking all of you to remain underground until we have stopped the reactor." the soldier yelled.
"What happens if you don't?" a man asked.
"...We're not sure." the crowd got louder again "BUT AT THE MOMENT PLEASE remain calm and follow our instructions, we are here to help! Aid is coming as we speak, and Oscorp has offered their assistance in the matter."
Pepper squeezed your hand, tears streaming down your face. "...What did Tony tell you?" she asked as the two of you sat against the wall.
"N-Nice one kid." you sniffed.
She gave a sad smile and nodded "That sounds like Tony."
"How did you form this... Rebel group?" you asked, watching the 3D printer.
"Five years ago, after Max killed Curt I... I didn't have anywhere else to go, and then Oscorp released the fifth edition of the dreadful actuator suit, and after I watched..." he trailed off "I-I had to do something."
"You seem to hate the actuators, yet you have them attached to you." you pointed out.
"And you're not wearing one at all, I know that Stark had the money."
"When they first unveiled the actuator suit about... eight years ago, Pepper was adamant that we find another way to survive without them."
"Why?"
"I don't know why, she never told me. I think it was something about the chip-"
"What did she say about the chip?" Gunther looked up, his voice was desperate.
"She just said that they were dangerous, so I started drafting up plans, it-it took a while to find enough copper, we had to dig up a lot of electrical wires, grab pennies, it-it wasn't easy since everyone figured out that copper wasn't magnetic. But we did it. I made that copper chainmail..." you pointed at the blueprint "To use the least amount. And then the back had solar panels which attached to the conductors, which would direct the energy here." you gestured to the cylinders above your arms. "I wanted to find a way to store that energy, but I haven't been able to. Here are the boosters I wanted to make.""How many suits can you make with the copper?" Gunther asked.
"About four?" you sighed as you rubbed your forehead, you were still woozy from the last use of the suit, you hadn't really figured out how to prevent that, you guessed reinforcements could be useful, but you weren't sure. You watched the 3D printer work, you could feel Gunther looking at you, and you started to feel hot.
"What would you have done if... The world didn't end?" he asked you.
"I was hoping to start my own tech company, focus on saving the world," you admitted. "B-But I don't like to focus on that, I won't be able to live that future anymore," you muttered sadly.
"But you will, I promise you that you will."
You looked up at him, shit he was attractive. "H-How do you know that?"
"When we-"
"If we-"
"No, when we take over Oscorp, we're going to stop the fusion reactor-"
You scoffed at that "Nothing can stop the fusion reactor."
"...We'll find a way. And when we stop it, we're going to heal this broken planet." he took a step towards you, your legs took a step forward as well. He looked down at you, your breath caught in your throat."...You're being serious?" You asked.
"Of course I'm being serious." he started to lean down.
"We're probably going to die." your heartnbeat loudly.
"Probably, but I would be... content with that if I got to stop the reactor... And do one last thing.""What would that be?" you breathed.
"This." he leaned down and kissed you, your knees buckled as you kissed him back... You hadn't been kissed in so long, and this was... by far the best kiss you've gotten. Your stomach did somersaults as he pulled you closer, you smelled cigar smoke and the familiar metallic smell acquired by time spent in a lab, you were addicted to it. When he finally drew back you blinked for a moment, trying to process what happened.
"W-Wow..." you sighed.
Gunther smirked at you "Wow indeed."
You got on your tiptoes to kiss him again.
"Ugh finally!" Anuras voice rang out, Gunther and you jumped back, you suddenly became very interested in the 3D printer again."Anura what the hell are you doing down here?" Gunther asked.
"And how long were you down here?" you added.
"Long enough." she grinned maniacally, you were scared of her. "To answer your question, we got a transmission from Hiro, everyone's waiting for you so they can play it."Gunther perked up "Really?"
"Yes, really." Anura waved the two of you up as her actuators climbed back up.
"Who is Hiro?" you asked.
"One of our spies that we sent to The Above." Gunther explained."You have spies?" you asked.
"Yes, they must have found something," he muttered as he went to the elevator shaft, he looked at you expectantly."What, you want me to come with you?" you asked.
"Of course I want you to come with me," one of his actuators grabbed you by the waist and pulled you towards him, he wrapped his arm around you and smiled, you turned red, your lips still tingled from the kiss. "Hold on tight," he said as the actuators climbed up and out of the lab. He strode forward to the strategy room, you ran to catch up with him.
"What did they send us?" Gunther asked as he stepped inside.
"An audio recording and a blueprint." Dr. Karlin answered.
"Play the recording," he ordered, Dr. Karlin nodded as she played the recording.
Now, who are you working for? A male's voice asked, Gunther's face darkened.
"Harry fucking Osborn," he growled.
I will never tell you. You heard another man snarl, that must be Hiro.
That's another finger for meee Harry sang. You heard a scream and the wet thunk! Of a blade coming down. You heard maniacal laughter, a shiver ran down your spine.
Oh? Oh, what's this? Harry asked, there was crackling and movement as Harry dug out Hiro's recording chip from behind his ear, Hiro screamed out in pain.
"The chip," Flash muttered.
Testing? Testing? What the hell is this do I... you heard tapping and he laughed Oh! Oh, I need to sell this! Let's see... Deleting that, and that... Aw, you managed to send that, oh well. They won't stop me. But they can hear this, right? Well, if they are... I'm coming for you, I already killed one of your members, and I'm about to kill this one... So I suggest that you stop before I find you all and kill you all, ok? Great... Well, Hiro, it's been a pleasure.
You heard a bang, you let out a cry as you heard a body fall to the ground. The audio ended. There was silence for a moment.
"...Show us the blueprints," Gunther muttered quietly, Dr. Karlin pulled up the blueprints. They were of the inhibitor chip, your eyes widened and you took a step back.
"No..." you muttered."What? What is it?" Gunther asked.
"I've never seen a chip like this..." Dr. Karlin muttered. "They never let us see it."
"There's only one man who put that groove in every single one of his projects," you muttered."Who?" Gunther asked.
"Tony Stark," you answered.
Tony Stark had made the inhibitor chip.
