"you can't tell me you've never heard of D&D."
"of course i've heard of it but i have no idea what it's about. don't you like move thingymajigies on a board and fight each other?"
that seemed to offend eddie. he scoffed loudly and slammed a hand on his chest, looking at steve as if he just said the most offensive thing to exist. "first of all, harrington, it's a tabletop. you move figurines on it and you don't just fight each other. it's a roleplaying game and..."
as eddie went on, steve found himself laying back down on (apparently) gareths bed, his eyes looking up at the ceiling. eddie did the same, still rambling about his little nerd game. once he finished, steve let a little smirk escape from his lips and he turned to his side, his eyes glancing at eddie."do you wanna know what you are, munson?"
"mm?"
"a nerd."
"is that a bad thing?"
eddie smiled once he said that, facing steve as well. steve opened his mouth to reply, but he closed it. perhaps it wasn't a bad thing. at least he was passionate about something. steve couldn't remember the last time he actually had that much interest in something.eddie was so hard to read. one moment, he had bubbly moments where he'd get a bunch of energy, and then another, he'd become more calm and chill. steve could never understand what was going on in his mind. nothing, if he had to guess. yet, something about him was just.. beautiful. he had some sort of spark to him that made steve so excited for whatever word he would say next. he was such a nerd but somehow he could make steve laugh with his dorky behavior. although, steve never admitted it. he would normally hide his smile with a roll of the eyes or a snarky comment.
"i like you, harrington. you're cute."
steve had to pretend to block out the last two words or else he wouldn't be able to respond. so he just shrugged and fiddled with his fingers."i tolerate you, munson."
"tolerate me? i am offended. you're lucky i'm not telling gareth on your ass. you better be thankful, steve harrington." the name sounded so pretty when eddie said it. the way it perfectly rolled off his tongue. okay, steve has to be a little drunk, because what the fuck is happening?
"i should- i should probably go find my friend, robin," steve announced in a soft tone. he didn't really wanna go, but he couldn't stand this weird nervous feeling anymore. "i need a ride home," he added, getting up without even glancing at eddie because he didn't wanna see his reaction to this sudden change in him."oh. oh, okay. do you mind if i come with?" please. please do. please follow me.
steve shrugged and headed towards the door, opening it and leaving it open because he was secretly praying that eddie would follow. he did. steve immediately caught sight of robin once he made it downstairs. eddie was so close to him now because bodies were pressed against another. steve tried to suppress the soft gasp in his throat when eddies arm brushed against his.
"robin! hey!" steve called in attempt to get her attention as they both pushed through the crowd. she finally whipped around and saw them, a drunken smile on her lips. oh shit.
"steeeeve. hey! i see you met eddie!!" robin pulled eddie into a hug and eddie gladly reciprocated, chuckling. "hey, robs. nice to see you," he greeted her nicely and kissed her cheek. okay, weird. they know each other. robin began blabbering about the girl from earlier, her words slurring over the other as she almost failed to keep her balance a few times. each time, eddie brought his arms out to help her. so now there's no fucking way they're leaving because steve doesn't feel like driving a drunk robin home. he doesn't feel like driving in general; everything still feels off.
"hey harrington, need a ride home? if you don't mind me using your car," eddie suggested, taking robins drink out of her hands. she whined a little bit, kind of like a toddler, and blew a raspberry at him. steve hesitated for... a long time. well, it's obvious eddie knows robin. eddie seems like a chill guy minus how cocky he can be. so, fuck it. it should be fine. he nodded so subtly that eddie almost missed it, but he didn't. he grinned and took robins hand, gently leading her out the house. robin couldn't walk straight, but she saw it as a game so she was a giggling mess.
eddie looked adorable while he led her.
"robin can just crash at my dorm. i'm sure it'll be fine," steve said with a shrug to break the silence. robin was almost passed out now, so her blabbering was gone and there was nothing to fill the awkwardness that still lingered between steve and eddie. "and you can too, if you want. i know that sounds creepy as hell, but i can probably kick my roommate out or something, i dunno."
god damn it. steve was the type to nervously ramble.
eddie gripped steve's steering wheel a little tighter. steve could see the way his knuckles turned white and his hands flexed, revealing more veins than before. eddies hands were big and slender with rings on almost every finger. honestly, they were pretty. it made steve a bit insecure of his own.
"you're too sweet, harrington. but i think i'll be okay. my trailer is actually not too far. it's in the middle of gareths place and the college. i think i'll be okay without a bedtime story and a kiss goodnight tonight." eddie shot steve a small wink. okay, wow. that wasn't hot at all.
"oh. so you live close? that means you don't need a dorm, huh?" eddie let out a genuine laugh at that, but steve had no idea what was so funny. he just asked a simple question."you really think i go to college? that's cute. it's nice to know you think i have the smarts for that. but do i really look like a college kid to you?" eddie gestured to his clothes with one hand while the other remained on the wheel. he had this smirk on his face that practically always stayed there when he's trying to tease. and it worked.
steve couldn't help but let a small smile break free. he's right though. eddie didn't look like your typical college boy."i'll return your car tomorrow since i'm visiting a few college friends tomorrow anyway. you'll get your precious baby back, don't worry. i'll take good care of her." eddie patted the steering wheel, beaming at steve. as much as steve didn't trust eddie with his car, he was too tired to protest and he didn't wanna give eddie a ride home.
steve helped robin up, having to carry her just a bit to actually get her to cooperate. "thanks for.. everything, munson. you're kind of cool when you're not being a cocky douche."
"awh. i could kiss you. goodnight, harrington."
steve just gave him a nervous laugh in response, before helping robin inside. she let out a few grumbles and groans but didn't put up too much of a fight. steve heard eddie drive away from behind him and a part of him felt.. empty. more than before.
"oh. rough night?"
jonathan watched steve plop robin onto his bed with a loud huff, closing the dorm door and catching his breath. it's not everyday you have to literally lift your best friend for five minutes. "yeah, you could say that. don't worry, man. shes just my best friend," steve murmured in reply so jonathan didn't get any ideas. he removed her shoes and scooted her to the other side of his bed, laying beside her and removing his own shoes. after, he pulled his shirt off without hesitation. jonathan was gonna see him shirtless anyway and it's not like robin would care.
him and jonathan talked for a while with the lights off. it was mostly plans for when they get out of college, yadda yadda. steve would avoid any questions that jonathan asked about love. none of that bullshit yet.
before steve knew it, he was passed out in a curled up position because robin decided to spread out across steves entire bed. of course.
