Elvin-Eugene's POV

It's been about two hours and I still couldn't sleep. Anytime I shut my eyes, the image of her eyes welled up with tears kept haunting me..

I was afraid that she'd break my walls and make me vulnerable. I was even afraid to look at her for long and eventually end up comforting her, giving her the wrong impression.

Damn, this girl!

I sat upright and this dull ache in my chest intensified. I've never seen her this sad before and it was really bothering me.

Another thing I completely forgot about was what if mom found out because Mirabelle told her everything out of vulnerability. That would be a whole mess!

Shit! How come I allowed that thought to escape me? My mum would be so hurt!

I ran my fingers through my hair and thought of what to do. Ugh Mirabelle was so right, I'm such a douche...now I had to comfort her without putting my feelings at risk.

I went to her house very early that morning and the guy called Enoch let me in.

"Good morning sir."

"Hey man, you good?"

"Yes sir."

"Is Mirabelle still around?" He nodded in affirmation staring at the bouquet in my hand.

I went ahead of him and let myself inside going straight to the kitchen.

"Elvin?"

"Hi mom, good morning."

"how are you?" she smiled at me.

"Great...Hey." I referred the latter to the lady at the dinette, having her breakfast. She glanced at me and the action made a sun ray penetrate her orbs

"Hi," she simply responded and I went closer to her with the roses.

"I bought some beautiful flowers for a beautiful girl."

Mom went about what she was doing in order not to interrupt us and I pulled a chair to sit next to her as I dropped the roses on the table.

She avoided me and carried on with her meal. I wanted to apologise but I didn't want Mimi to get curious.

"I hope you're well today?" I asked and she responded with a pointed look. "Can I drop you off today?"

"That won't be necessary, thank you." she declined.

"Please? I just want to know where you work."

"Aww." Mom cooed and we glanced at her. "Sorry!" she continued with what she was doing.

"Fine," Mirabelle spoke.

***

Her deadly silence was killing me. Like she didn't talk at all. And so didn't I because I honestly didn't know what to say or say whatever I had to say

How was saying sorry  so difficult?

So nothing was said till we got to the hospital.

"Mirabelle." I called her name before she advanced through the door.

"What?" She muttered not looking at me.

"Mirabelle." I repeated and got her to look at me. Without much of a thought, I leaned over and neared my face to hers. I wanted to erase the distance between our lips but I wanted to make sure that she had also consented.

We made eye contact for a few seconds before she quickly glanced at my lips, biting hers at the same time, enticing me.

"Eu-Eugene." she stuttered, breathlessly, Her cheeks flushed when I moved an arm over to the head rest and leaned in extra close.

"Sorry." I whispered and pulled back, looking out the widow in order not to see her face any more.

"Um..bye." She muttered fumbling with the car door before she got out. I leaned my head back on the seat and groaned in frustration and confusion

What was she doing to me?

***

"Are you sure everything is turning out great?" Lynelle asked sipping her smoothie, narrowing her eyes at me.

"Just as I planned." I sighed. I didn't want to tell her the details because I was annoyed that she could be right about the Mirabelle issue.

"By the way, I wanted you to escort me to check out the new condo apartment I just rented." I told her.

"Sure, when are we going?" She asked.

"Tomorrow morning."

"Alright."

"Are you done?" I asked referring to her smoothie.

"No, wait a moment."

"If it's past 12, I wont take you there." I warned.

"Mm don't be like that, you know, I'm a slow eater." she rolled her eyes. She wanted me to her around Rio to visit places and I agreed to do that before my meeting.

"Hmm," I muttered. The waiter came with the bill and checked out Lynelle once again. I paid and nearly chuckled when Lynelle was oblivious of him till he left. I smirked at her.

"What? Its not funny." she grumbled.

"I'm not laughing." I shrugged and she rolled her eyes. She took her purse and stood up.

"You done?" I asked checking the time om my wrist watch as I stood up.

"Yeah," She muttered folding her arms. She actually looked annoyed and I wondered exactly why.

We left and she walked ahead of me and that further confirmed my thoughts.

"Lynelle, are you alright?" I asked trying to catch up because she was walking too fast.

"Yes I'm fine." she scoffed briskly descending the staircase.

"Are you sure? Why are you avoiding me?"

"I'm not—" She was cut off by her scream and unfortunately I wasn't' nimble enough. However luckily for her she didn't fall from a height.

"Damnit." I muttered rushing to her.

"My ankle." She groaned.

"Uh..hold on.." I mumbled unsure of what to do, and my first instinct was to take her to the hospital.

"Can you walk?" I asked.

"Yes I can even run and jog, idiot." she glared at me.

"Sorry." I apologised stifling a chuckle. I slid my forearm over her back and carried her while she wrapped her arms around my neck

"Should I take you to the hospital?" I asked looking at her as I exited the place.

"I prefer the morgue." She pressed her lips into a thin line I chuckled.

The nearby hospital was the place Mirabelle worked and when I left Lynelle in the care of the nurse, I went out to get a cup of water.

A little part of me wanted to see her and somehow I felt her near. So after about three cups, I decided to roam about a bit and maybe admire the posters and maybe find her or something.

"Oh really? I don't really see you around at all, this is my first time." My heart accelerated at the sentence and I turned to see the owner with her male companion as they came my direction.

"I'm here mostly on weekends." He responded and for some weird reason, I didn't tear my gaze away from her nor did I move from where I stood. I waited till they were close and a dubious plan came to mind.
