(Jamie's POV)
I get bored just sitting there whilst the official makeup artist fusses with my hair, so I pull my phone out and check my messages.
Hey baby, I got the earlier train home so I'm on the way already. Dw, I won't come into the studio, I'll just go straight to the flat and get ready for tonight. Love you xx
I quickly tap out my reply.
Hey El babe, take ur time getting ready. Director wants to go through a bit of paperwork so might be up to an hour later than planned. I'll make it up to u tho, promise ;) love u xx
The guilt just keeps growing.
(Y/n's POV)
"There's not really anything going on-"
"Oh please," she cuts in gently. "I've seen the way he looks at you. And the way you look at him. Trust me, I used to look at him like that. I'm guessing he told you about us."
I nod a little sheepishly and nervously tuck a lock of hair behind my ear, as though it was a secret that I wasn't supposed to know.
She starts to potter around with the kettle and mugs.
"What would you like?" she asks me.
"Sorry?"
"Coffee? You shouldn't have to make the for everyone else all the time, let me make you one."
"Oh, well thank you," I'm a bit shocked, I wasn't expecting her to be this nice. It's the first time I've properly spoken to her. "I'll just have a cappuccino thanks."
I remember Martin's cappuccino and Jamie's latte and quickly take them to where they need to be before coming back to Lily. I see she's prepping two mugs for cappuccinos.
"How much did Jamie tell you about me and him?"
"Well.... How much do you want to know?"
She raises an eyebrow. "He told you that much, huh? Just give me the basics."
"Well, he said you were on and off for a few years. The first time you broke up was because of the press getting to the two of you."
"And the second time?"
"Um... He... He said...."
"Oh god, how bad?"
"He said you couldn't deal with his baggage."
She stops drawing milk art on the coffees and glances over to where Jamie sits, a flash of anger in her eyes.
"That's a lie."
"Excuse me?"
"I figured he wouldn't have told you the truth. And believe me y/n, I'm only telling you this because you're a sweet girl who doesn't deserve to be dragged into his mess."
"Okay.....?"
"The real reason that Jamie and I broke up the second time was because he cheated on me."
I subtly grab the chair behind me for support.
"He what?"
"He cheated on me. With some girl he met at school when he was younger. I don't know how long they were seeing each other behind my back before I found out, but I knew he was in too deep with her to be able to truly commit to me."
"Oh my god." I look over to where Jamie sits and see him looking right back at Lily and I. He looks nervous.
"What happened after you and Jamie broke up?"
"Well, he certainly stopped trying to be discrete about seeing her. She came to the set of the movie we were doing so many times, and they would leave together in the evenings. She'd give him a lift home, no doubt she went to his home too."
My blood starts to chill in my veins as small tears form in my eyes.
She gently takes hold of my arms and spins me so my back is to Jamie.
"Don't let him see you cry."
"Is he still seeing her?"
She looks a little bit sad.
"I'm sorry y/n, but I really don't know. I'm just telling you because you have a right to know the truth and so you can be prepared for if he does it again. Like I say, once a cheat-"
"Always a cheat," I finish for her. "Yeah, I'm familiar with the saying."
The sadness in her eyes stays as she gives me a hug.
"Don't push it, not yet. How many times have you been out with him?"
"Just last night. He kissed me."
She sucks in her breath slightly. "Give him the benefit of the doubt. For now. I'll keep an eye on him, sadly I've learned how to spot the signs. I'm not going to tell you what they are because I don't want to make you paranoid, but I'll keep an eye on him for you and I'll let you know if anything suspicious happens."
I embrace her in another hug, the sweet feeling of a new friendship blooming in my chest.
"Thank you, Lily. Really."
