Working at Family Video isn't all that bad. I mean, we get to ditch those ugly sailor costumes with that stupid hat. I repeat this in my head like a mantra as I force myself out the door to go pick Robin up from school so we can start our shift. That's another plus: Robin and I get to continue working together. Her sarcastic remarks make dealing with rude "know it all" customers a lot more tolerable.

As soon as we arrive and I unlock the stores door, Robin forces her way past me and speed-walks over to a display to the left of the main counter.

"God Robin, slow your roll. It's too early for you to be running around like that."

Robin rolls her eyes dramatically. "Steve. It's 1 pm. It's not my fault you're an old man who's tired all the time."

As if to prove her point, I begin to yawn involuntarily. Robin makes a point to wave her arms in my direction as if she's presenting something to a crowd.

"Exhibit B." She stifles a laugh as I cross my arms and glare at her.

"Jesus, I'm not THAT old. Just didn't sleep well last night."

"Aww, Harrington didn't get his beauty sleep?" She feigned concern, "Stop complaining. I've found our afternoon movie." She held up something that looked like a cheesy romance film.

"I know things are going well between you and Vickie, but can we *please* tone it down a bit with the romance?"

Robin lifts herself up to sit on the counter and copies my arm-crossed stance, her face scrunching up in dispute.

"You are such a Debby Downer. Hey, maybe one of these films will inspire a spark in that non-existent dating life of yours!"

I smack my hand over my chest, stumbling back a bit as if I've been hit,
"Wow Robin, you have some nerve judging MY dating life. How long did it take for you to ask Vickie out? Huh? And who came up with a plan and script for you because you were too nervous around her to speak coherently? Oh right....that was all me." I responded teasingly.

"Sounds like a long winded excuse to me," Robin shrugged, "you helped me with MY romance Steve, that doesn't mean you're getting any yourself."

I paused for a second, trying to think of a comeback, but nothing could come to mind.

"Alright, fine," I groan, "we can watch your stupid romance. Just don't expect me to keep up with it."

Robin jumps off the counter excitedly and skips over to the shitty TV sitting in the corner of the counter space, shoving the VHS tape in the slot.

"Atta boy Steve, we've got a long shift ahead of us, it's time to lighten up your mood."

Just as Robin finishes her sentence, the door pushes open. We both turn to look at the customer that just walked in. Usually on weekdays we don't get many customers, if any, so it's usually Dustin, Mike, Max, or even Erica coming in to cause trouble, but not today.

"Ha," I laughed sarcastically, "So much for that."

Robin elbows me, shooting me a dirty look.

"Hey Munson! What's up!" she calls out cheerily.

It was gonna be a long day.
