Dawn Drakos
Seattle, Washington.
. . ."Grandma!" a chuckle bounce off my shoulders, "you cannot say things like that,"
My grandmother always had a special way with her words, that was something I'd enjoy about her, she didn't bite her tongue.
A long and loud sigh left her lips as she gave my shoulder a light shrug, a sprout of words in Tagalog meeting my ears as she disregard my comment.
"Grandma," I repeated.
"I'm just saying when you do get back out there again." She sighs, dark hair mixed with gray brushing her shoulders, "Marry a man with brothers so just in case he dies and you can marry the others."
She didn't give me room to say anything, a snort bouncing from the garden room of the flower shop downtown. It was Monday morning, I skipped my family's brunch this morning not really in the mood for the criticism, and decided to have a date with my grandmother.
With the schedule Damon has me on, I hate to say I haven't had any time with my grandmother. We always bonded more than anyone in my family, she treated me like I belong, and don't get me wrong Iris and Ares try their best to include me but, you can't escape bad habits.
"It's the twenty-first-century grams," I chuckled taking a look at the blue tulips, "If I had one brother, why would I want the rest?"
The sunshine through the garden house reflected on the beautiful flowers we were picking out. Grams had a fine taste in flowers, where I could not keep the damn thing alive, I killed a cactus, how the hell do you kill a cactus, Dawn?
Bringing the flowers to my nose inhaling deeply and letting the smell devour my senses, I always love them because they represent life, in the end, no matter how well you treat them, it always dies.
Grams shrugged, her wrinkled fingers gathering flowers into her arms. "Just saying, my daughter tells me you have been ignoring her calls,"
I shook my head at how fast she changed the subject, I should've expected my mother to go to hers and tell her about the drama brewing in their four-story American dream home.
"I been busy-" I opened my mouth ready to tell her what exactly I have been busy with.
We started the building for the hotel, I spent a week with Damon, and as peaceful as it was I have to say it was strange because Roman wasn't there at all. That little whore in the back of my mind wanted to know where he went, not because I missed him... maybe to ask him to stay there and leave me the hell alone.
"I know, my granddaughter is a very successful business woman but, when you talk to your mother it's less stressful on me. And do you want me to be stressed?" it was a rhetorical question but I wanted to answer.
"No grams, I don't see the point. All she is trying to do is set me up for another date, and as I recall the last time I did, I ended up with my right hand in the car door,"
