Chapter 2: Alone

The game ends. I win of course. The whole time I felt so alive. I think Eddie was a big part of that. Just the way he speaks and his enthusiasm. And his voice bro. It sent me to heaven and back. We argued a bit. Some of it mayyy have been me needing an excuse to interact with him. It started to feel like a game between just him and I. He was into it though. And Dustin and Mike let it slide. Probably because that's the most emotion ive showed in weeks. It warmed my heart a bit to see them care for me like that. As we were closing up Eddie and I stayed chit chatting. Everyone slowly left.

"See ya soon?" Dustin asked hopefully before he headed out.

"Soon" I said with a smile.

And I meant it.

Now it was just Eddie and I. I was picking up but really I just wanted to be around him. We were quiet but a comfortable quiet. It felt like home.

"You live far? Its pretty late I could give you a ride" Eddie asked me. Nowww normally I'd say no. The dudes 2 years older and his car probably reeks of weed. But my parents aren't home to smell it on me. And bro it's Eddie munson. I'll take any chance I could get.

"Uh sure" I reply.

He shuts the lights off before I could grab my board. I turn to grab it and trip right into Eddie.

"Woah there princess, you all good"

I dont let go for a sec and he doesn't either. We make eye contact. I could feel his breath. Closer and closer. Our lips just graze over eachother. My insides curl. My knees woble. And somehow I stumble again?? We don't even kiss. My face just falls into his shoulder. He pulls me away and grabs my board.

"Let's go, you're so tired you can't take 3 steps"

He puts a hand on my lower waist and leads me out of the room. He locks up and walks to his car. I follow. He opens the door and let's me in. Just like I thought. There could be a garden bed growing in the back and I wouldn't be surprised. He hops in and starts the car.

"Alright little lady buckled up?"

"Mhm" I mutter happily

"Perfect. which way am i goin?"

I direct him home while we talk.

"You don't seem like the dnd type"

"And you don't seem like the give rides to strangers type"

"You can be my exception"

I stare at him doe eyed.

"Really though, how long have you been playing"

"Well I started back in 4th grade with Dustin, Mike, Lucas, and Will. I loved it. Well I still do. But I just dont play as much anymore."

"Whys that" He asked. But he sounded so genuine

"Uhh well it just hasn't been the same since Will moved you know?

"I don't know yn. Tell me"

Whys he so interested. I give in though. I feel safe with him.

"We really got eachother. I'm close with the other guys yeah but will and I had a closer connection"

His face tightened. Not anger. Jealousy?

I quickly defend myself. But I have no idea why I'd need to defend a nonexistent relationship to this guy.

"Not. Not like that. I told him personal things. He told me personal things. We were just closer in a vulnerable sense. And since he left I dont quite have that outlet anymore."

Hes looking concerned now. Why did I tell him that oh my goshhh. But before I could say anything we got to my house.

"here!" I say. It was so quiet it almost felt like a shout. I pause for a sec. "Do you want to come in and ill get you a snack or something? To keep you awake on the drive home?
