Twenty one

'Vami.' Vi mumbled in his sleep.

'Chach- Uncle, it's me Sammy. Vami isn't in the room. Do you need something?' Sammy asked as tilted closer to him.

He opened his eyes and saw her.

'Where is she? Is she angry with me?' Vi asked anxiously.

'Oh come on uncle why would she be angry with you? She loves you, a lot! She was tired so I've sent her home to rest. I'm here to take care of you,so don't worry.'

He smiled weekly before closing his eyes.

'Uncle?' she poked his arm.

'What's wrong?' he asked startled.

'Sorry uncle. I was confused if you slept or got unconscious again, so I was checking.' she explained sheepishly.

'It's alright.'

'I think I should inform the nurse about you, so I'll be right back.' she left the room and brought back a nurse along with her.

'I'll change this I.V' the nurse said as she slowly removed it. She inserted a new sterile needle on his other hand making him flinch.

Sammy held his hand tightly patting him gently on his back to comfort him.

'Is it done?' Sammy asked the nurse after the new I.V was inserted.

'Yes it is.'

'Also when can we take him home?' she asked.

'I'll ask the doctor and let you know. ' the nurse stated as she walked out.

'Do you want anything? Shit! I forgot to inform Vami about you. Wait I'll call her.' Sammy immediately called Vami while Vi watched her, adoring his daughter's new friend.

'She's gonna come in an hour. So until then if you need anything, don't hesitate to tell me, I'm also like your daughter.'

'Thank you beta, I'm fine.' he was happy to see her care for him.

'Can I ask you something?' he asked hesitantly.

'Yeah uncle, go ahead.'

'Did she tell you that she's my daughter or did you figure it out?' he asked.

She understood what his intention was and how can she not lie when she knew for sure that it's gonna make him the happiest.

'She had your family picture as her wallpaper, at first I thought she was your fan but I eventually figured it out.' she said and could already see him gleaming with happiness.

The next day:

'I can walk, I don't need this wheelchair.' Vi announced as the girls were forcing him to sit in the wheelchair as it was time to discharged him.

'No, that's not allowed. You have to sit in this and listen to me.' Vami said sternly.

'But I'm alright, that's why they are discharging me. Isn't it?'

'No you aren't. Do you even have an idea of how scared I was? I don't want to lose you, so you have to listen to what I say.' she ordered.

Vi got quiet and followed as she said while being the happiest person on the planet hearing to her absent minded confession that she doesn't want to lose him.

'I'll drive. You sit with him in the rear seat.' Sammy said as she occupied the driver's seat.

'It feels so good to be back home.' Vi admitted as the car drove past their main gate.

'You freshen up and come while we'll make something for you to eat.' Vami said as she began unloading their bag from the trunk.

'I'll make biriyani.' Sammy announced and ran into the house.

'I can't understand this girl at all!' Vami exclaimed.

'Why is it?' Vi asked.

'She doesn't get up on time every single day but see how hyper she is now.'

'Uncle, is there basmati rice in the house?' Sammy asked (yelled) from the kitchen making both dad and daughter chuckle.

'I'll go help her. Come inside.' Vi smiled as he walked into the house.

Dad was in the hospital, he got discharged today. Thought you'd wanna know

Vami erased the entire message and shoved her phone away in frustration.

'Sammy when will you be home?' Rits asked on the phone.

'Mom, just few hours more. I'll be home by 7 p.m for sure.' Sammy informed.

'Do visit us too, sometimes.' Ro remarked sarcastically

'I got bored seeing your faces for all these years, so let me be.' Sammy joked unaware of what it kindled in her parents.

'Did we spoil her life by taking her away from those who love her?' Ro asked vulnerabily.

'Those who love her? Can you name them please? Because I don't remember seeing anyone present around us when we needed them. Stop over thinking Ro.'

'Yeah that's true.' Ro said sadly. He walked into his bedroom while Rits took their dog for a walk.

Ro's phone chimed with a message.

How are you Ro?

It was the first time in all those years that he received a message from anyone other than his family.

He was in a dilemma whether to reply to it or not. He can't ask his wife about this as it would make her panic more, neither can he tell this to his daughter.

But he couldn't leave it unattended. It could be from his Vi, for whose call he was waiting for so long.

Who is this?

He sent back a message and since the second he clicked send, he waited impatiently for a reply.

He wished for it to be Vi or Nush and it would definitely not matter to him if it was anyone else other than those two.

Ro couldn't sleep that night as his impatience grew tenfold. He tossed and turned on the bed but nothing helped him to sleep.

His phone screen flashed and he quickly checked what it was.

Someone who loves you.

He wanted a name and not riddles like this.

You'll won't recieve a message from me until you name yourself.

He typed back a reply and tried getting some sleep.
