I'm finally finished with this stupid packing. I didn't even know what to bring to a beach house, but yet still managed to pack a full suitcase and a half if I include my duffle bag.

"Leilani" I turn my head to see Miyu at the door of the guest bedroom which also happened to be mine since I moved in. "We leave in 2 mins. Are you all packed?" She asks.

I show her a tight-lipped smile and nod. "Yeah, just need to do a quick thing before we go."

"I'll take your suitcase. Meet us by the car once you finished." She smiles and takes my case before closing the door behind her as she leaves.

I look around my room one last time. I've only been here for 11 months but it already feels like home, especially with the people I'm currently living with. They are like family to me. I look over at my dresser and stare down at the picture of my mother and me when she was still here.

"God, I miss you," I whimper as if she could hear me from where she is.

It's been 11 months since I lost my mother and most people would assume I'm finally healed from her death, but truth is, life has been getting harder every second I recollect she's gone.

"Summer won't be the same without you mom. I'll see you soon. I love you." I set our picture down and took off downstairs and bumped into Akio.

Akio was Miyu's older brother, but sometimes you have to question yourself on who is actually older. He's always been an older brother to me. Safeguarding me. Just being there for me.

"Hey, just in time. Ready to go?"

I nod and he flings his arm over my shoulder and walks us out to the car. Miyu and Aiko's mother, Nicole, and Miyu were already in the car waiting. I got in the back seat with Miyu while Akio got in the driver's seat.

"You kids ready?" Nicole smiles.

I put in my headphones and rested my head on Miyu's shoulder. "Yeah," Miyu and Akio say. Akio stars the car and we were eventually on our way to Covingtons Beach.

Ever since Nicole took me in, she has tried everything in her capacity to make me feel included and part of her family. I think that's why she was so eager for this year's trip to Covington because it is my first. I would finally get to meet the family everyone rambles about.

"This is the longest trip I've ever been on. If I stay in this car any longer I just might throw up." I complain. We had been in this car for what felt like hours when the beach was only 2 hours away from where we initially lived.

"Well, lucky for you... we're here." Akio says as he pulls into the driveway of a beach house.

This has got to be the most eye-pleasing modern beach house ever to be seen in the neighbourhood. It's huge. Miyu, Akio and Nicole get out of the car and are welcomed by their family friends.
