Addison's hand were uncomfortably all over me and anyone could tell she was drunk.
"Come on, Oni." She says throwing her arms on me. "Come watch the fireworks with me."
"I, um- "
"Hey Oni!" I looked over and saw Nico who was holding a football. "Come toss with me."
I told Addison that I'd talk to her later and basically ran away from her and over to Nico. "Thank you" I say, taking the ball from him.
"Anytime" He smiles.
My brother can be an idiot sometimes but you gotta love when they have your back. Nico and I were throwing the football back and forth to each other.
"All right, here it comes" I said before throwing the ball a little too hard that he barely caught it.
"Oh, easy on the velocity Tom Brady" He said.
He threw the ball back to me but the ball gets caught instead by my father.
"Interception" Nico cheered.
I couldn't help but feel my blood began to boil at the sight of him and not even bother to look at the man in front who I once considered a father in my life.
"Hey, Dad. Uh, we're lighting that big firework you got in Mexico, the one that, uh, makes the big palm tree." Nico said tossing the ball back at our dad. "It's gonna be awesome."
"Can't wait. Just don't aim it near the house, all right?" He said. "Hey, come here, I want to show you how to run a post."
"Yeah, we got to go dig the clam pit." I said as an excuse to get away from him.
"Oh. I'll come help."
"Why don't you go spend some time with Mom?" I cut him off before walking past a Nico as to the beach.
Nico took a while to get to the beach so I already started digging the clam pit without him. They was until I heard him call my name.
"Keoni. Can you be nice to dad for one day in your goddamn life? He's really trying." He said.
"Good for him."
Nico threw mud at me and I looked at him.
"Whatever you have with dad, squash it. Okay?" Nico said seriously.
