Note: The above is Hyunjin's engagement ring with Llongwook. I literally typed ugly emerald rings to search for it but it's still kinda pretty. Lol.

Author's P.O.V

A week had passed and Hyunjin's wound had healed completely. He didn't have to wear any bandages anymore and his back wasn't even sore. But still he wasn't allowed to leave the room inspite of all his whining. His eomma was too strict.

But he missed that. Getting scolded by his eomma while his brothers laughed at him, his father trying to take his side but in ths end the everyone had to follow the Queen's orders.

Minlee, his appa had removed and thrown away his engagement ring with the Kang prince when he found Hyunjin lying in the infirmary bed, right away. His heart broke when he realised that Hyunjin was about to sacrifice his whole life and get married to Llongwook just because he thought it was his appa's wish. When Hyunjin saw his ring finger empty of the chunky ring he had always hated, it felt so freeing, as if a much heavier weight was lifted off him.

Jinyoung and Joonsung came to his room often, asking him how he was, kaing sure he was getting proper rest. He thought that they would be angry with him for behaving harshly with Chan but they were simply sweet. They treated him like their own son and Hyunjin wondered how could he ever think that his dearest samchons betrayed his parents.

Minho, Changbin and Seungmin visited him regularly as well. He tried multiple times to apologise to them but they would scold him for it everytime.

"We are family." They kept repeating, making sure that Hyunjin understood the truth in those words. And he finally did.

Most of the times their visits ended in his own brothers and them bickering with each other. It was a complete chaos but it made him laugh and adore every single one of them even more.

But even in all his laughter, he felt a sting in his heart.

Chan would visit him too. Everyday. To give him his meals and medicines. He would attend the smallest things like adjusting the cushions to make Hyunjin more comfortable or closing the curtains where the sun rays were too bright. But he made sure to keep his distance. And he never looked directly at Hyunjin's eyes. It was as if he was ignoring the younger.

Is he repulsed by me? He could make the servants get me food if he doesn't like coming near me.

Hyunjin thought sadly.

It was early afternoon when Minlee had come to visit Hyunjin again. The prince was sitting up, with a book in his hands but he was looking out of the open window, sighing heavily once in a while. He kept his book aside as soon as he noticed his appa's presence and Minlee sat beside him on the bed.

"Hyunjn-ah, when you were little, you would always hide your injuries when you fell in the garden while playing. You didn't want to worry your eomma and I. But I would just have to look at your eyes and know that something is wrong. And I wanted to protect you from every injury, every pain in the world. We all were so scared when you were kidnapped, we felt that we had failed to keep you safe. Then we tried even more to protect you, even if we had to hide you in our home to make sure you are safe. But I realized that wasn't fair to you. Because you kept shutting yourself from everyone even more. My son, I want you to know that you don't have to deal with every problem on your own. You know you can share anything with your appa right?" Minlee said.
