TW: allusions to self-harm, suicidal thoughts, grief, depression

Ada's POV

I'd like to think that this case wasn't affecting me, but I'm not naïve. I'm just surprised, I thought that after 18 years, I would have got over this stupid fear and the stupid memories which come with it.

I listened intently to the case, I couldn't let my mind affect my job, I'd already let it affect Aaron and I, and I hate myself for that. I didn't mean to snap, it's not like me, but whenever I've had flashbacks or bad memories in the past, I've been alone, I didn't have someone trying to talk to me. It probably would be healthy to talk to him about them, to get it off my chest, but I went to therapy for years, and it didn't help, so why would that change now.

"So, he's killing families, but there's no known connections between the families?" JJ asked from opposite me on the jet.

"Well, that's from the preliminary search, but Garcia will be looking into it." Hotch responded, flicking through the file.

"24 people though," Derek sighed, "That's a hell of a lot of victims, and that's all over the last month, he doesn't seem to be slowing down."

"Are we thinking revenge?" Emily questioned from beside JJ.

"A serial arson is not a separate or distinct motive for fire setting, it is a pattern of fire setting frequently seen in revenge, excitement or extremist motivated arson." Spencer rattled off, "Serial arsonists often aim to create a climate of fear in entire communities, while community leaders tend to compound the problem by pressuring law enforcement agencies to identify and quickly apprehend the fire setter."

The jet is quiet for a moment, and I look up from my seat in the corner to see the whole team looking at Spencer. Derek shook his head, breaking the silence, "How do you manage to say so much, while still not answering the question?"

A smile passed my lips as the team burst into laughter. My gaze fell to Aaron, who was trying to hide his grin for Spencer's expense, but I could still see his dimples appearing across his face, and that made me smile more.

"How's the survivor doing? Chrissy, was it?" JJ asked Hotch. In the last of the fires, the 17-year-old daughter of the couple managed to survive, jumping out of the upstairs window. She's lucky that she was about to sneak out to a party, so was awake and noticed when the smoke started pouring into the room, no one else had been that lucky. But also, she just lost her parents, I don't know how lucky she's feeling.

"She's conscious, the injuries are mainly from the fall," Hotch informed, "I told the police to let us talk to her first."

"He's disorganised, they found fingerprints at all the crime scenes, and a pair of gloves at the one, but I doubt they'll get any matches in VICAP, it's very unlikely that he's been arrested before." Rossi stated, examining the photos laid out in front of him, "Do they know how he started the fires? Serial arsonists will usually try to use materials available to them at the scene."
