It has been five days since Rooster was called to Top Gun again. He was stationed in Japan for three months and suddenly the order for his transfer has come. The strangest thing about that was that he didn't wonder why the order came but why he had to come back to the place he never wanted to see again. Miramar. The place where his father died.

But it was an order so he came to military base the day before and decided to go to "The hard deck". He believed he would meet a familiar face there. And he met Hangman, Phoenix, Coyote. They didn't know anything neither.

But he couldn't say that going to the bar was bad idea. He met this girl. Kitty. Rooster has never complained about lack of female company. He has always attracted women like a magnet because of his uniform, piano skills and smile. But she was diffrent. Fucking hell she even ignored him! She was sassy, mean and well-spoken. And clever. And pretty. But it couldn't explain why he was so thrilled by her.
He considered that when he was sitting in an uncomfortable chair in the hangar.

Hangman turned on his chair and smiled maliciously.

-What's up Bradshaw? Are you thinking about your defeat?

-Actually I'm thinking how nice your face would look under my fist.

-Charming-Hangman snorted. He was going to say something else but they heard:

-Officers!

All of them jumped to their feet. Adm. Beau 'Cyclone' Simpson, Adm. Solomon 'Warlock' Bates and Wo-1. Bernie 'Hondo' Coleman came into a hangar.

-At ease- they said, Rooster sank down on a chair and wondered if he finds out now why the hell he is here.
Warlock stepped into the center and started to talk. He was talking about them being the best and about the task that awaits them. And suddenly...

-Your instructor is one of the finest pilots this program has ever produced. His exploits are legendary. What he has to teach you could mean the very difference between life and death. His call sign: Maverick. Capt. Pete Mitchell.

All of Rooster's colleagues turned back and looked at their new instruktor with curiosity but he sat still in shock. He could not believe that. He did not believe that. Man stood behind the desktop and looked straight into Rooster's eyes for the first time in almost twelve years.
Maverick didn't change much. The same bright eyes, the same dark hair, the same short, muscular silhouette. But his gaze was diffrent. Full of grief and sorrow when he looked at Rooster. "I hope so. - Bradshaw thought vindictively- I hope he regrets what he did. I hope his grief don't let him sleep". Twelve years didn't suppress his anger. Meanwhile Mav looked at the faces of the pilots.

-Mornin'.-He raised instruction book for F-18.- I suppouse you know all this by heart.

-Yeah, sir-everyone nodded and so was Rooster.

-It's good because your enemy know it too.-Mav dumped the papers into a bin.-What the enemy doesn't know is your limit. I'm goin' to train you to take your aircraft to the breaking point.

-Here we go again.-Rooster heard Warlock muttering.

He almost laughed. Yeah, Maverick was still the same. Evan now when he explained that he will teach them how to fly ignoring the boundaries and breaking the rules.

-I intend to push your limit. Show me what you are made of. - Maverick continued.

-Nice-Rooster heard Phoenix muttering to herself.

-Today we will start with what you only thing you know. Get Ready!
Pilots got up and headed for the changing rooms.

-This Man is a living legend. - Said Coyote.
