As we made our way toward the wall that separated the school from the rest of Riviera Heights I looked over at Christian who analyzed the wall probably already thinking of ways to get over it. The wall was as tall as the both of us combined and had vines growing all around it.
"How do you suppose we get over it?" I asked.
Christian kissed his teeth, "Do you trust me?" he knelt down beside the wall and cupped both of his hands in front of him, "I'll lift you to the top."
I furrowed my brows, "Seriously?"
"How else do you suppose we get over this thing?" He asked, raising a brow.
"Fine." I took in a deep breath, "If you drop me-"
"I won't." He interrupted.
I slowly placed one foot in his hands. I could feel my heart begin to race and I hadn't even left the ground yet. Without giving it another thought I grabbed onto vines on the wall for extra support and placed my remaining foot in his hands.
"Are-are you oka-okay?" I asked clutching onto the vines.
Christian chuckled, "Are you?"
"Yeah, I think I'm ready," I assured him.
From what I could see he hadn't even broken a sweat. His hands were so firm it was like balancing on a brick. The only time I could feel them move beneath me was when he slowly started pushing me up and with each push, I was quick to grab onto a new vine to steady myself.
Before I knew it I was face to face with the top of the wall and without further hesitation, I clenched my jaw and used every bit of upper body strength I had to get myself seated on top of the wall. I looked down to see Christian smiling at me. He looked oddly proud of my accomplishment.
"I told you I wouldn't drop you." he said, "Do you think I could hand over your suitcases?"
I turned over to look on the other side and noticed a huge pile of leaves that had been pushed up against the wall, "Yeah, pass them over to me, I can just throw them over to the other side."
Christian raised a brow, "Are you sure you wanna do that?"
"There's a massive pile of leaves right here, I'm sure it wouldn't be such a harsh landing." A small laugh left my lips, "Why, are you worried my things might get bruised."
He jokingly rolled his eyes, "So what if I am?" he said as he reached for my first suitcase, extended the handle, and lifted it towards me. I held onto a bunch of vines with one hand so that the weight of the bag wouldn't send me back down again. I reached down and grabbed it, using every bit of strength I had then swiftly pushed it down to the other side. I did the same with the next suitcase which landed safely next to the first.
"Your turn," I said looking down at Christian who whore a smug grin on his face.
"Move over." He called out as he took a few steps back but before he could do anything else I watched as flashlights peaked through the trees. There were people headed our way.
I looked over to where my bags were then back at Christian who had the same look of worry on his face I most likely did. The flashlights grew brighter and to accompany them were voices I found all too familiar.
Without a flicker of hesitation, I closed my eyes and readied myself to take the jump. If they found me, they would surely take me back. I'm not going back. I silently prayed that I wouldn't break any bones on my way down and before my body left the edge of the wall I felt something strong grab hold of me and all I could feel was a strong wind rushing through my hair. In a matter of seconds, I felt a tingling sensation flow through my body as the crunch of leaves filled my ears. Something was holding onto me and I could feel that I was no longer on the wall anymore. I opened my eyes to meet Christians.
