Prologue
Lone Moon
The New Face of Garreg Mach
Eliza Marvine stood at the bridge that led to the entrance of Garreg Mach Monastery. Her heart was racing in her chest at the prospect of the new adventure. Never in her wildest dreams would she imagine herself here.
The journey to Garreg Mach from her home in the Leicester Alliance was long and treacherous. She was fortunate to have her bow with her and a small sac of belongings to place in her room. Eliza stood in front of her new room and grasped the knob. She entered the quaint dorm and set her things on the bed. She leaned her bow against the desk and smiled seeing how close she was to the greenhouse. There were so many new sights and people to meet.
"You look lost," a girl's voice said to her.
Eliza turned to meet a short girl who appeared to be close to her age. She had unusual white hair and pink eyes. She wore an Officers Academy uniform and had a friendly expression on her face.
"Oh," Eliza said, "I am just in awe of such a place. There are so many people and things to do here."
The girl smiled and pointed to Eliza's hands, "Are you willing to share."
Elia followed the girl's eyes and noticed she was looking at her bag of sweets that her mother had packed for her. She opened the bag and held it out to the girl.
"I have never had such a delicious sweet in all my life," the girl beamed, "By the way, my name is Lysithea von Ordelia of House Ordelia in the Leicester Alliance."
The title made Eliza nervous. She knew coming here would expose her to those with such power and prestige and coming from a commoner home, she felt intimidated. Would they look down upon her knowing her upbringing?
"Eliza, Eliza Marvine from the commoner family of House Marvine," Eliza said quietly.
"Eliza?" Lysithea said, smiling, "That is a beautiful name."
"Thanks," Eliza replied, warming up to the girl.
"You have to come with me to our classroom where we'll meet everyone in our class for the year. We're part of the Golden Deer House."
"How do you know I am in that class?" Eliza asked, puzzled.
"Your name is on the list Claude was passing around," Lysithea explained, "Don't you know, it is tradition that students from the Leicester Alliance are to be part of the Golden Deer house?"
Eliza frowned, "I'm sorry. My home is in Fódlan's throat so we're not really well versed in the traditions."
Lysithea widened her eyes, "That mountain range is treacherous."
Eliza smiled, "While treacherous, there is beauty in the mountain range."
She sighed thinking of home. Her mother and father would be tending to their garden or going out for a walk together. It was a quiet life that she loved. Her father originally was a knight serving House Riegan before resigning, having fallen in love with her mother during a mission to a small town along Fódlan's throat. It was a sweet love story that gave Eliza hope for the future. Her parents wished for her to attend the Officers Academy as a way to show her the rest of the world.
Lysithea led Eliza to the classroom where she saw the rest of her classmates. They crowded around a boy with brown hair and green eyes who was showing them a map. They lifted their heads to acknowledge Lysithea and they turned their attention to Eliza.
"Lysithea, who's your friend?" The tall, strapping boy asked in a deep voice.
His stature was enormous, but he had the friendliest smile on his face. The boy beside him adjusted his glasses, "I agree with Raphael, who is this?"
