"hey, is everything alright?" vinnie asked sincerely, looking at his angel from across the table. "oh, um, y-yeah," lola quickly responded, taking a bite out of her burger to silence herself.
everything was definitely not alright.
she was leaving to paris in a week. 7 days. and vinnie was absolutely oblivious, no idea whatsoever.
she wanted to tell him, she needed to tell him, but everytime she got close to doing so, he looked at her with those big brown eyes. so full of love. she couldn't do it.
she just wanted to enjoy her last moments with him. when she told him, she'd be ending their relationship. she was no where near ready for that.
but today marked the 7 day countdown, it was her deadline, and there was no way to avoid it anymore.
"wanna watch a movie?" vinnie asked as they stepped into his room, returning from their fast-food run. "oh, uh, sure," lola exhaled, getting onto his bed and avoiding eye contact.
vinnie frowned at her tone and sighed, sitting in front of her, "lola, please tell me what's wrong. you've been acting so...emotionally gone for, like, days! and today, you're barely even talking to me...i just wanna know what's going on."
lola let out a shaky breath, looking down and playing with her own fingers, scared that if she opens her mouth to speak then she'll start crying. "lola bug..." vinnie trailed off, gently grabbing one of her hands.
that nickname suddenly became a trigger word for her.
"vinnie, i have to go to paris." lola blurted out, still not meeting his eyes. vinnie furrowed his eyebrows, "what?"
"i got offered this job as an intern...i'll get to do makeup for models in paris. i'll get to go to fashion shows and everything..." lola spoke, wiping her eyes even though no tears had fallen yet.
"baby, that's incredible!" vinnie smiled wide, "how long will you have to visit for the fashion show? i can go too! it'll be like a little vacation. you're so talented, really, you deserve this, angel."
he was so proud of her.
"n-no, vinnie, it's not a one time thing...i have to permanently move there." she finally looked up at him. "oh." was all vinnie could say, him now being the one to avoid eye contact.
she let out a sigh. nothing official had even happened between them yet, there was no break up, and yet she still felt like she already lost him.
