'the late-night talks'

MADELYN watched through the window as robin, dustin, steve, and max filed back into their car, with the promise of returning in the morning with food. her arms were crossed tightly over her chest as the dull hue from steve's headlights faded down the gravel path. her mind was still spinning with what the group had told her and eddie; that the curse of hawkins wasn't some stupid story to cover up the town's bad luck. that there was an alternate reality below their feet that haunted their town.

"and then there were two." eddie spoke, his chin resting in his palm as he stared down at his shoes. the blonde nodded, continuing to stare out the window as she watched the treeline. "you okay?"

she nodded again, slowly tearing her gaze away from the trees to look at the brunette behind her. "i mean.. as okay as i can be after i just found out that there's a literal monster in hawkins. that somehow ties to your d&d game." madelyn told as she scratched her temple, taking a few steps forward to sit on the ground beside eddie.

"that's a very good point." he replied with a yawn, his head slightly shaking back and forth as his face scrunched up. "it kinda makes sense, you know?" madelyn turned her head at that, looking at the brunette who sat next to her. "think about it. there has been disaster after disaster in hawkins. first that byers kid, that girl from school died, then the gas leak, the farms rotting, the mall fire. there had to be some kind of explanation for it all."

"and that's not even mentioning what happened to chris." madelyn added, wiping her palms on her exposed knees. "i was just hoping for like a psychopath, not an alternate dimension monster."

"if you were hoping for that, i'd be concerned." the brunette joked, earning a stifled laugh from madelyn.

"i'm concerned about the fact that i believe that kid." she said as she scratched the back of her neck, bringing her knees up to her chest to take in more of her body-heat. "if someone had told me all like three days ago, i would've laughed in their face."

eddie nodded as he looked over to her, noting how her jaw shivered. "are you cold?"

"good observation, eds." madelyn teased as she laid the side of her head on her kneecaps, lazily looking over at the brunette beside her.

the brunette rolled his eyes as he scooted forward, weaving his arms out of the sleeves of his jacket, while still keeping his vest on. "here, take it." eddie told as he held the jacket out.

"what? no, i'm not taking your jacket." she replied, shaking her head no.

"you're cold, i'm not. take the damn jacket." he spoke with his eyebrows slightly furrowed. "guys naturally radiate more body heat; that's like a scientific fact. so, no harm no foul if you take the jacket."
