'the good and bad news'

MADELYN woke up that morning, her chest pressed against eddie's back as she laid on her side. her right arm was wrapped over his arm, leading to where his left hand was tightly holding hers as he slept, and their legs were intertwined with one another's. she reached her free hand up, rubbing her eyes as she glanced around, a small shred of sunlight flooding the boat through a hole where the tarp didn't meet the edge of the boat.

she craned her head up slightly, looking over his hair to look at his face, making sure he was still sleeping; which he was. his lips were slightly agape, and a small string of drool moved down his chin. madelyn stifled a laugh as she covered her mouth with her free hand, not wanting to wake him. she moved the quilt down and off of herself, tucking it into the space between the two of their bodies as she pulled her legs away from his.

the blonde was careful as she moved, very slowly and gently pulling her hand from his grip; being sure to keep watch over his face, checking for a sign of him waking up. he looked quite peaceful in his sleep, the way his hair was strewn on the pillow behind him as well as on his face. she shook her head, finally catching herself staring down at him.

she rolled her shoulders and tucked her hair behind her ear, trying to ignore the flutter in her heart. if he was awake, he probably would've teased her for staring down at him as he slept, most likely something along the lines of how she was a creeper. but, she couldn't really help it. he, honestly, looked quite cute as he slept. the way his eyebrows slightly moved, how she could see his eyes shift behind his eyelids, most likely having a dream. his fingers twitched around the space that previously had her hand in it, the simple gesture making madelyn's heart beat faster when she noticed that his hands were missing the feeling of hers.

madelyn sighed as she slowly moved out of the boat, making sure the blanket was still pulled over him before she moved the tarp back over the boat, covering him up. she placed both of her hands on the boat, keeping it from rocking too much. she slowly walked away from the boat, once it stopped swinging, and moved towards the bag that still held the small amount of snacks eddie had grabbed from inside the house.

she pulled out her last pack of fruit snacks, ripping the package open as she stared out the opening of the shed, looking out to the water. as she popped two of the gummies into her mouth, her eyes scanned the lake in front of her, noticing the dark, wooden, clock stood in the water. her breath hitched in her throat as she put the pack of gummies back into the bag, moving closer to the opening.

the small waves of the lake bounced onto the clock, staining the dark wood a darker color. her stomach dropped as a figure stepped into view, easily recognizing the bright green and yellow cheer skirt. her limbs were intact, different to the last time she had imagined her sister, a difference she was thankful for. her sister stepped into the lake, moving to stand directly beside the clock.
