'the best friend'

MADELYN ran.

her lungs burned, her feet ached, her knees were scraped from falling as she ran through the woods. her right hand was tightly clasped over a large scratch on her left upper-arm while her other hand was pushing herself off of trees, attempting to push past the sharp pain in her lungs.

the blonde had slipped away from the basketball players while jason retrieved his friend from the lake and andy called the police. she knew that if she stayed her parents would show, she knew that she would have to sit there and listen to them disgrace and make fun of eddie and blame him for the death of her sister.

she knew what was happening. and madelyn knew that the simple minds of her parents and police officers within the town of hawkins wouldn't be able to understand. they wouldn't try to understand. she'd be laughed at for telling the truth and thrown into the loony bin.

she would never be able to see her friends again, she wouldn't graduate, she wouldn't get to leave hawkins, and she'd never be able to see eddie again.

so she ran.

she didn't necessarily know where she was going, or where she was meant to go. according to robin, her parents had put out the word that she was missing, so the town was on the lookout. she didn't know where anyone beside steve harrington lived; and knowing his parents they probably weren't at his house.

she only had one idea. a walkie-talkie. she knew the frequency that dustin's was always set too. it was just getting to one.

which is how she ended up outside the walker house.

samantha's parents and little sister were out of town for her father's business trip. and madelyn knew that samantha's sister owned a walkie-talkie. throughout her run, the sun had started to rise, her clothes had been snagged on various twigs and branches, leaving several holes in her already dirty clothes.

she was practically covered in mud and dirt, having tripped over herself due to exertion. her knees were scraped, there were scratches on her hands from where she tried to catch herself.

madelyn looked like hell. and her appearance didn't even begin to describe how she felt.

her chest was tight with worry for eddie's circumstances, her heart was pained with thoughts of her sister, her mind plagued with the image of patrick's body levitating over the dark waters of lovers lake. she was exhausted; physically and emotionally.
