"hello, what do you want to order?" lark greeted the customer in a hoodie with a forced smile.

the customer pointed randomly at the menu. "that. when do you get off work, larky?"

the blonde's eyes widened. "in twenty minutes, jojo."

"i'll wait." joanne uttered before turning to gaze out the window with her hands fiddling ferociously under the table.

half an hour later, lark slid into the booth across from joanne, this time dressed in a white v-neck and skinny jeans instead of waitress uniform. "i'm, um, it's nice to see you again."

joanne nodded, pushing the soup away from her and finally raising her head to look at lark. "yeah. sorry about skipping out by the way... it was just a bit weird."

"yeah, sorry about that." lark cleared her throat. "so you met my... friend.'

"she's sort of a bitch."

the blonde snorted. "tell me about it, when i broke it off with her, she threw a fit."

"so that's why she's been giving out pop quizzes left and right!" joanne accused. "literally, left and right, she doesn't give me anything to do after that."

lark laughed. "so are we okay now?"

after a while, joanne's shoulders relaxed and she nodded. "yeah, back to the park bench tonight, larky."

"don't call me that."
