Chapter 12 : Reversal

Diana's POV

I was on the field, I picked up the white blanket from the basin as I shake off before hanging it up and pinning it with clothespins on the rope. My eyes narrowed as I looked up at the clear sky. I hope it won't rain. This is the only way to relieve Viola's heart because she used to love going to the river.

"Diana," I turned my back as I found Celeste standing. "Did you already ask permission to aunt Lydia?"

"Even if I don't ask permission to her, she'll allow me, as long as it's close to our town. How about you?"

"Well," she stutter as her eyebrows lowered and pulled closer together as she raise her eyelids. "I-I just want to let mommy know I'm going to the river with you two, so she won't look for me. She always allowed me to roam but suddenly she didn't allow me!"

My forehead frown. "Why?"

"She said I should avoid Viola otherwise I may be implicated on Irvine's issue," she huffed, crossing her arms. She released a heavy sigh. "Nevermind, don't worry about me. It's fine. The matter is you just go with Vy to make her happy. Just tell her I'm sorry I can't accompany her,"

I sigh. Great. Just great. We're not even complete going to the river. "What time is it?"

"Three-forty. You should get ready,"

"Oh, Celestia narito ka pala," mom arrives with a basin full of laundry as Celeste say hi to her. "Hay nako mga dalaga ko, makinig kayo sa akin. Lalayuan n'yo na 'yong Viola, ha?"

"M-ma?" I stutter.

"What? Did I say something wrong?" she ask back as she shake off the white shirt that she was holding. "Help me get ready later. Your aunt Jen will arrive at four in the afternoon," she stated, referring to Celeste's mom as my eyebrows furrowed.

"B-but.. mom, we're going to the river-"

"With who? Viola? Hindi ba sinabi ko sa iyo na layuan mo ang babaeng iyon? Baka mamaya madamay ka kapag nagkagulo nanaman. Tignan mo ba naman ang mga pasa mo,"

"Ma, napatunayan naman 'ho na hindi si Viola ang gumagawa ng gulo!" I stated as I couldn't help but raise my voice.

"Wala akong pakialam, Diana! This is for your safety. I don't want my daughter to get into trouble again just because of her friend. Try disobey your mother if you want me to send you to your aunts and go to college there!" she fumed reason for me to shook my head as she just ignored me. As if land and heaven had fallen on my heart.

Looks like I can't escape just to talk to her. What if she waits overnight? How would she feel if we made her expect too much? What should we do? What now?

"Let's just talk to her tonight," Celeste whispered on my ear as she pressed her hands on my shoulder. That would be a great idea. But she's sulky. What if she gets upset with us? What if we lose the opportunity to explain things to her?

Damn it. Stop overthinking, Diana. Be positive. Everything will be alright. "R-right."

Laughter filled the living room as mom just sat me next to her on the sofa. Aunt Jen and uncle Rick were facing us while Celeste was next to me. I looked at the clock and it was already quarter to five. It was as if anytime I would lose my heart in my chest as my ass became sore.

"Do you think she's still waiting?" Celeste murmur.

"I-I think so,"

"Diana, what course will you take in college?" auntie suddenly asked as it took me a while to answer.
