I slept on the couch and was woken up to Conrad and Nicole whisper arguing about whether to wake me up or not. I got up and walked over to where they were and found french toast, eggs, and a bowl of fruit waiting for me.
"You are literally my favorite people ever," I said and hugged Nicole, who held me tighter and combed through my hair. Conrad joined our little group hug and the three of us laughed before breaking apart.
"You gonna talk to him today," Con asked as I took a bite of the french toast.
"He's been texting me nonstop so I'm probably gonna have to," I replied with a sigh and Nicole shook her head.
"You don't have to if you're not ready," Nicole started to say and Conrad scrunched his face up.
"Actually, he took work off and might be on his way," he said and I froze.
"Right now," I asked and he nodded. "Well shit."
"Better figure out what your gonna say Ken," Nicole said and I sighed.
"I'm not hungry anymore, Con you want the rest of this french toast," I asked and he sighed.
"Yeah I'll eat it, just at least eat the fruit please," he said and Nicole agreed.
"Yeah the fruit is to be consumed before you leave this house," Nicole said and I laughed.
"Alright mom," I replied and she rolled her eyes. "But I will," I added and she grinned.
"Good," Nicole stated and I laughed as I popped a blueberry in my mouth.
"Kay I gotta go think for a sec," I said and they nodded as I took the bowl of fruit to the couch.
About 15 minutes later I had finished my fruit and there was a knock on the door.
"Bye guys love you," I said and they waved before I opened the door to reveal one Jeremiah holding a bouquet of chrysanthemums, my favorite flowers. I sighed and closed the door behind me so that I was now outside and in between Jer and the door.
"Hi," he said hesitantly and I raised an eyebrow.
"If you think flowers is going to fix this, you're wrong," I replied and he shook his head.
"I don't. Wanna go on a drive," Jeremiah asked and I shook my head but walked to his car with him anyways.
We drove in silence for the first few minutes, the only sound was White Ferrari by Frank Ocean playing quietly in the background. The flowers in my lap were wrapped in plastic that would occasionally crackle and make the tension in the car seemingly rise.
Eventually Jeremiah broke the silence, "I want to actually truly apologize to you. I feel like my apologies are usually not the best and I want to fix them. I feel awful about last night. Like really fucking bad. I'm sorry I didn't ask you if everyone coming along was okay, that wasn't my decision to make. It was ours and I didn't even think that the dinner atmosphere would make it worse to say no to everyone and I should've noticed that you were uncomfortable sooner. The Belly thing last night was also fucking stupid of me. I didn't really think anything of it and that's the problem. I'll do literally anything to make it up to you. If you want me to cut her off I won't hesitate," he said, slowly measuring his words as he talked and making eye contact when he could.
"Jer I appreciate the actual apology and you taking accountability but I'm over having to have these conversations. Nothing that we talk about has actually been done and I'm over it. If we're gonna have this relationship you're gonna have to step it up and try because it's starting to get old. I don't want you to cut her off, that's stupid she literally lives with you and I'm not gonna control who you talk to. However, I think a little bit of distance wouldn't hurt. It also feels like I'm second to her sometimes when we're all together, like your trying to compensate for her feeling alone. I get that, but she's old enough to include herself in the conversation without latching on to you or Conrad for everything she needs or every time she feels uncomfortable. I don't care how selfish it sounds, but you should be looking to me, your girlfriend, when something goes well. I've been by your side since we were little, but way more for the past year and a half and I've seen you at some pretty dark places. I'd like to be able to share the good times together before we share them with everyone," I said with tears now streaming down my face.
Jer pulled over and unbuckled his seatbelt before getting out of the car and moving over to my side. He sat next to me in my seat and shut the door, wiping my tears with his thumb as some of his own fell in his lap.
"You're not selfish angel, and I'm sorry for making you feel like second choice when you'll always be first. I think distance with Belly will be a good thing and I'm going to make everything up to you. I love you so much and I want you close to me forever," he said pulling me into a hug. I wrapped my arms around him and both of us cried into each other's shoulders for I'm not really sure how long.
Eventually we pulled apart and we both laughed when we went to wipe each others tears at the same time. I gave him a quick kiss and he pushed one of my hairs behind my ears.
"You wanna go to the beach angel," he asked and I nodded, resting my head on his chest and taking a deep breath before sitting back up. Jer went back to the drivers seat and instantly reached for my hand and putting it under his on the gear shift. I smiled and sat back in my seat hoping this was the last argument for a while.
"The flowers are pretty by the way," I added as we drove and he laughed.
"Pretty flowers for my pretty girl," Jer replied and his thumb rubbed little circles on my hand.
