It was wonderful. It was magical. I suddenly felt as if I belonged somewhere. Nate pulled me close in, and I could smell him: he smelled like mints and linen.

Nate kissed my forehead, and I looked up at him.

“I love you,” the words came out of his mouth like a river. I stared at him in awe, and he turned his face away.

“I love you, too,” I said the words, truly meaning them. “I’ve loved you from the first day.” He pulled me in tighter, and we embraced, standing still, young and in love.

“What will they say?” He asked me. “What will Luke do?” His eyes bored into mine, and I was breathless.

“Who is ‘they?’” I stared at him. “We’re in love, Nate. Why are you even thinking about Luke?”

“Luke hates me for loving you,” he told me, slowly. I stared at him, confused. That was silly. Luke didn’t love me. He didn’t even know me that well. Well, I didn’t know him that well. Neither of us really knew much about each other.

“No, Nate...” I paused a second. “I’m sure it will be fine. It will.”

He stopped a second, looking at me with wide eyes. “Destiny... I love you, but I need to tell you something because of it. I know that we need to start this relationship off with truth, and not with lies, and that’s why I need to tell you this here and now.”

“Here?” I asked. We were standing in the middle of a street.

“Well...maybe not here,” he gestured to the road with his hand.

I suddenly felt a chill, and I turned around, searching for anyone that may have been watching us. A stray homeless person. A teacher that had followed us, not believing that I was sick. Anyone. I could feel them, but I just couldn’t see them.

“What’s wrong?” Nathan looked as if he was staring through me. I shook my head. I had seen nothing.

He grabbed my hand, and the two of us walked down the street, going the way of my apartment. I wondered what he wanted to show me. I didn’t need to see anything. I just needed to feel those fiery lips again. And put the fire out with the cool water. The two of us, steaming, together.

Luke

I paced back and forth in the principal’s office. That boy... that stupid man.

“This is all your fault!” I shot at Harry. He was so stupid, to think he could just barge in and take Destiny like that. He was the reason it hadn’t happened yet. Destiny and I were meant to be, I knew it. Even Percy was on my side.

He turned, looking at me with disgust. “You’re pathetic. You think that just because you gave yourself up to Percy in the war that you’re going to get Destiny. Like she’s a huge reward. Like she’s Percy’s trust, and you have to get her. Destiny is brilliant, mind you. She’s the smartest girl you’ll ever meet, and that means she’s not dumb enough to fall for you.”

Harry snapped his fingers, and everything around us froze. The principal in the main office, talking to the guidance counselor stopped, her hands in mid-air. The kids in the hallways paused, their faces contorted from talking to friends, were frozen in motion.

I rolled my eyes, looking at Harry. He was ‘so charming and good looking.’ Sure. Yeah. he was just a huge-

“Showoff,” I muttered.

He stares at me, eyes dark as a storm cloud. “I’m going to go out there, and I’m going to find Destiny, and I’m going to make her mine again.” He stormed out of the office, snapping his fingers again. Everything resumed, like nothing had happened. It was like everything was coming to life again.

“But you can’t,” I murmured. “It will ruin everything.” I thought a second, and ran out after Harry.

The principal glared at me. “Hey!” She yelled.

“Sorry! I have to go after,” I stopped a second. What had she called him? “Liam! I have to go help Liam!” I started sprinting again, past the secretary and all of the students.

“Who’s Liam?” She muttered, confused. In her hands was a plaque for being the top student in the grade. My name was on it.

But I didn’t stop to think about what Harry had done with the Mist. I had a mission. And whether I liked Harry or not, I had to protect Destiny.

Destiny

The two of us turned the street corner, and Nathan pulled me down into the subway.

“Come on,” he smiled warmly. “I need to show you this.” I walked, his hand in mine, down the stairs, and after paying for our toll by a grouchy-looking middle aged woman, the two of us boarded a train.

I looked around inside. This was one of the few times I had been on the subway since my accident. The subway was interesting, yet I felt slightly scared every time I went on one. It was like I was in someone else’s territory, and the two of us both knew that I wasn’t wanted there.

There was no one else on the subway. That was strange. I looked at Nate, eyebrows raised. He just shook his head, taking my hand again.

“Destiny Jackson,” Nathan said my name slowly, and the only thing I wanted was to taste those fiery lips again.

“I-I need to tell you something,” he ran his fingers through his hair, the dark brown looking almost black in the lighting.

“Yes?” I bit my lip, amused. He was so adorable.

“I know that I’ve only known you for a short while now, but...” he paused, scratching his head. “I have to tell you something important.” He took a deep breath, and his face seemed to be almost changing into something different.

“Okay,” I smiled up at Nathan. He was so silly, acting like he had to tell me something huge. That was so Nathan. Trying to act like the cool guy sometimes, others admitting he was being a fool.

“Well,” Nathan took a deep breath. “My name isn’t really Nathan.” I looked up at him again. It almost seemed as if a blindfold was being taken off of his face. His eyes seemed to be turning black, a deep, coal black. It was like I was truly seeing him for the first time.

“My name is Eros.” He said, sending a chill down my back. “And I’m the god of love.”

Despite my discomfort, I laughed. “And?” I questioned.

“And I’m the cause of all your problems,” Eros said, winking.
