Niki (A Sk8 The Infinity Fanfic)

(Miya's POV)

Niki has been in the hospital for a little over two months now.

She hasn't woken up at all, neither as she made any movements that indicate she's okay. She's still breathing, which is a good sign.

The doctors say if her brain continues to be non-responsive, they'll try a different approach.

I'm just glad they're trying something.

S has been running the same, except Adam disappeared ever since his race with Niki. Nobody knows why, so the finals have been postponed.

I've been spending all my time after school in Niki's hospital room. Sydney visits as much as she can, but she still has finals that her parents really want her to study for.

As for the rest of our friends at S, Reki and Langa have already paid Niki a couple visits. They seem remorseful, and Langa really wants to get Adam for hurting his friend. Since Cherry was unable to visit due to his injury, Joe visited for the both of them. He left a bouquet of yellow roses for her. Shadow visits once or twice a week, depending on his work schedule.

It was one of those days that I was visiting Niki when something strange happened. I hadn't seen anything like it before.

I was just sitting in her room, head rested on the side of her hospital bed. I closed my eyes for two seconds, but it felt like ten minutes.

Maybe it was, I wasn't counting.

I shot awake to commotion outside of her hospital room. It sounded like a lot of random yelling, but I couldn't make out what they were saying.

I sleepily trudged over to the door and opened. There, I saw a nurse talking to an old couple.

"You!" The woman of the two pointed at me.

"Me?" I pointed at myself and raised an eyebrow.

"How come you were able to be in our daughter's hospital room and we weren't?!" She stared coming closer to me. Her supposed husband glared at me.

"Ma'am...I'm going to need you to step away from him." The nurse stepped in between us. "You are not allowed to see your daughter because you never checked in with the front desk, and you never provided proper identification that you are her parents."

So that's what happened. I thought. Niki's parents wanted to finally see their daughter, but refused to check in.

Hadn't they noticed she wasn't around? Where were they for the past couple months while Sydney and I were keeping her company?

"The last time we came here, we were told we weren't allowed to see her." Her father stated. "We got busy lately, and now we're finally here. You're still refusing to take us."

"For goodness sake-!" Her mother started digging through her purse and shoved her driver's license in the nurse's face. "Is this enough proof for you? I have her insurance card too."

"Yes. This is." The nurse nodded her head. "You may-"

Without saying another word, Niki's mother shoved us aside and stomped into her room. Her husband followed close behind.

In total shock, I followed them in, watching her mother gasp at the state Niki was in.

It was just the three of us in total silence for a moment...until Niki's father spoke up.

"I've been wondering ever since we first saw you." His eyes shifted towards me. "Who the hell are you?"

"Takashi!" Her mother was baffled. "Language!"
