All she could feel was cold. Until she took a breath.
Her lungs quickly filled with something that was most definitely not air. The woman started to cough but that only made the same thing fall into her mouth, vaguely she registered it as dirt.
She clawed with her hands until they were in front of her, luckily the ground was soft. She tried to call her powers, but it was hard. She was growing panicked and it caused her to take another breath, starting to choke on the dirt.
Luckily, at that moment a burst of light shot from her hands and broke her free.
Air. She could breathe.
She scrambled from her position and found herself in the middle of trees. What on earth was she doing there? She looked around herself until it came to her.
The Fold. She had been crossing the Fold. And she'd been shot. The Sun Summoner was fairly certain that she'd died, yet there she was.
Her hands scrambled towards her tunic where she saw dried blood, but underneath the fabric, her skin was unbroken. There was no wound.
Nesta Brekker was alive.
