Chapter 14: The Boat House

Victoire was running down the steps to the lake, her veins pulsing with drunken exhilaration. Teddy was close behind, grinning and panting.

Victoire went to the edge of the water and kicked off her loafers before placing both bare feet in the silver water. "I think I was a mermaid in a past life."
"I hope you know how to swim then..." Teddy said before running to her and splashing her with water.
Victoire squealed and covered her own mouth.
"People will think we're up to something."
"That'd be a shame."

Victoire went and sat under the crooked roof of the boat house.
"How come you haven't came to see me sooner? I've been waiting."
Teddy's stomach flipped. She hadn't forgotten.
"Oh um I thought maybe you didn't want to continue..."
"I haven't forgotten, you know. I flew all the way to your house. I was just scared that things would change when we came back. And they did."
"Not for long." Teddy said, sitting beside her and placing an arm around her shoulder.
"I like you Teddy. There's no pressure with you. I feel like I could just burp right now right in your face and you would keep looking at me the way you are."
"You're disgusting," Teddy said laughing.
"I feel like we're good for each other."
"Or we're just both extremely drunk."
"Who gives a shit?"
Victoire picked up his hand and held it in her own smaller ones, opening his palm.
"You see this line here?" she said, pointing to a crease.
"Yeah?"
"Know what it is?"
"The point where my hand bends?"
"Don't be so literal. It's your life line. And on this life line you are about here." She said pointing a little way along the line. Then she lifted his hand and kissed his palm.
"I want to be on this line somewhere. I want to be a part of your life and I want you to be a part of mine. I've really liked you since we worked in that stupid joke shop and I want to be with you a lot more often than I am."
Teddy leant in and pressed his forehead against hers.
"You talk a lot."
And he kissed her. Finally.
