"𝐍𝐈𝐂𝐄 𝐓𝐎 𝐌𝐄𝐄𝐓 𝐘𝐎𝐔, too." peter shook kenny's hand.

unfortunately, there was no time for a proper presentation as they had very little to no time to save themselves. the wolves were just outside the burrow, and if their queen wasn't so eager to have them all killed for herself, they'd gladly eat them right there.

the wolves outside targeted them, and when the leader gave the order, all of them neared the burrow, surrounding it. there were at least nine wolves around the little house, all ready to scratch every window and log from over it, as they did seconds later. from the inside, the ceiling slowly started to fall to pieces, little twigs and dust along with snow went in, and the candles flickered from the wind that slowly froze the small space. their limbs getting cold for every second that passed, not only trembling because of that, but also the fear which grew in them.

mr. beaver helped everyone down the hole that they, along with his wife and friends, had dug a few months ago. it was behind a small door in a corner, easily accessible but they never thought they would use it one day. maybe to escape their wives once in a while, but never under these circumstances.

"badger and i dug this. it comes out right near your house." they all ran, beaver leading the way less than a metre ahead, jumping over some rocks and thick branches that were in the way. the torch held by peter made the passages hot enough to make them all sweat, although everyone was already sweating from the adrenaline.

"you told me it led to your mother's house!" mrs. beaver exclaimed.

behind kenny, lucy stumbled on a thin branch, groaning as susan helped her to her feet. everyone stopped and fell silent. lucy gasped, "they're in the tunnel," she whispered.

"no, really?" kenny said quietly to no one in particular. she would never address lucy with a bad intention, but her head started to hurt again and stupid comments weren't helping to lessen the pain.

she liked the girl a lot, no buts. and it wasn't her fault that kenny was having trouble keeping herself alive all the time. however, if their wish to arrive back in london alive was an actual objective to them, the least they could do was keep quiet and run.

susan glared at kenny for her lack of sensitivities. "quick! this way!" exclaimed beaver. good, very clever of him, another way to attract the wolves aside from the fact that they had probably already tracked them by their scent. "hurry!"

"when was the last time you bathed, beaver? your scent must be helping them track us down," kenny joked.

unless she was mistaken, the last time she ran for her life was just two or three months ago, when some of the witch's servants almost had her captured in the middle of her daily chores. luckily they weren't able to recognise her. after that time, she hoped she'd never be chased again.

a few metres further on, they came up face to face with a wall, "you should have brought a map!" the female beaver claimed.

"there was no room next to the jam!" mr. beaver jumped up and climbed through a hole in the ceiling. the two beavers came out first, then susan and kenny. "come on, lucy," the older one helped her out. finally, peter came out as he had stayed down the tunnel waiting for everyone to come out, holding the torch so there would be a light to see the way.

behind them, in the middle of the night, and surrounded by snow once again, lucy stumbled back, falling over what looked like statues of animals. well, more like frozen, rock animals. peter and mr. beaver blocked the wolves' way out of the tunnel with a barrel covered in snow. when they turned around, the two beavers wrinkled their faces in sadness as they recognized many of their friends now made of stone. it was the witch, everyone knew it was her.
