AUTHOR'S POV:
"Ugh! Why can't you just die already!?", Y/n L/n groaned in frustration as she furiously pressed the buttons on her game console. Y/n's face suddenly dropped as the screen displayed the text reading 'Game Over'."You know what? I'm done!" Y/n said to herself as she shoved the console back inside her backpack.
She was currently waiting for her bus to arrive so she could go home. But for some reason, it was running later than usual."Agh!! Why is nothing going my way today?" The h/c-haired girl complained. She was speaking the truth though.
Earlier today, her "friends" ditched her which resulted in her sitting alone in the classroom, eating lunch all by herself. She had started to feel like she was being left out but she didn't know that they would outright ignore her like that.
Moreover, her parents were also becoming more and more distant from her recently. Even when she woke up this morning, the house was completely empty. The only thing that reminded her that she didn't live alone was the note on her lunch bag which read 'Here's your lunch. Remember to take it with you to school. -Mom'
Now, she was sitting alone at a bus stop, waiting for the bus to arrive which seemed to be taking forever to do that. "Fu*k it. I'm just gonna walk home instead." The girl muttered.
She stood up, threw her backpack around her shoulder, and started to walk away from the lonely bus stop. While walking she recalled the events from the day, which didn't help lighten up the already melancholic mood.
After a long walk, Y/n reached a busy street. It was in the middle of noon so it was nothing out of the ordinary. The girl walked over to the crosswalk so she could get to the other side of the road. There were a few other people there who were waiting for the signal to turn green.
The signal soon turned green and Y/n proceeded to cross the road. Just as she reached the other end of the road, she heard a loud honking noise and the sound of people's gasps. She immediately whipped her head around to see what was happening. She saw an old woman hurrying to cross the road and a big truck racing towards her at a rapid rate.
FIRST-PERSON POV:
Without thinking, I threw my bag onto the sidewalk and sprinted towards the old lady. I didn't know if I could make it to her in time, but I couldn't stop now even if I wanted to. It was almost as if my body itself refused to stop.It was a miracle that I actually reached her. I immediately pushed the old lady towards the sidewalk but fell on the rough ground myself in the process.
I suddenly felt a sharp pain in my knee. But that wasn't the worse of it. As I turned my face towards the road I saw it. There it was. The truck was rushing right towards me now.
It was that same feeling as before. My body couldn't move. It was as if some kind of force was holding me down on the ground. The silhouette of the truck only seemed to be getting closer and closer. I closed my eyes and braced for impact. I thought this was it. This is the end.
It was then that I heard the voice of a person shouting. My eyes suddenly shot open. The sound of the truck and the honking was now overbearing. Suddenly an arm yanked me out of the way of the big vehicle. As soon as I got up from that dangerous position, the truck hurtled past me, barely missing by a few inches.
It all happened so fast that I couldn't even process what was happening for a few seconds. I pulled myself together and let out a breath that I didn't know I was holding in. I looked up and saw a crowd of people sighing a breath of relief. I guess they also witnessed what just happened.
I turned around and saw that the truck had halted. There were several police officers at the scene now. They were taking the driver out of the vehicle.
-
The situation had calmed down now. A few police officers questioned me about what had happened. Turns out there was a malfunction in the truck's brakes. That's why the truck was not coming to a stop.
I was starting to feel like I was forgetting something. That's when I remembered that old woman. She was nowhere to be seen now. There were no traces of her. I decided to get up and look around for her. But unfortunately, my efforts were for naught. I couldn't find her no matter how much I tried. It was like she wasn't even there to begin with. It was then that I felt a tap on my shoulder.
I immediately turned around to see the same old woman again. But this time, there was a guy beside her. He looked like he was around my age. The elderly woman looked quite distressed as well as the guy beside her. "Child, are you okay?" she muttered in an anxious tone. A small nod was all I could reply with.
In response, the woman sighed a breath of relief. The mysterious guy that was beside her all this time, finally decided to speak up. He hesitated at first, but then he introduced himself. "Hello. My name's Hatsukumi. And this is my grandmother. I said I was going to that grocery store on the other side of the street and told her to stay put. But she decided to come with me anyway. I was in a hurry so I left earlier than her. When I heard all the commotion outside I ran out here and saw what happened. I was the one who pulled you off the road." He said nervously as he visibly sweat dropped
'Wait...so he was the one who helped me back there?' I thought as I recalled what had happened. "My grandmother and I just wanted to express our gratitude for what you did. It was truly a heroic deed. I also wanted to apologize for the horrible incident you had to go through to save my grandmother. I'm truly thankful for you."
"Uh..ur...thank you.." I honestly did not know how to handle compliments well. It was not quite often that people genuinely appreciated me for what I do. It was quite the opposite actually.
"We wanted to accommodate for troubling you." the elderly woman said, pulling me out of my dismal state. "So here, I have a little something for you." The old lady added as she proceeded to pull out something from her coat pocket.
It was a silver pendant of sorts. It had a crystal at the end of it. "I appreciate your kindness but I can't take this. I don't like to expect to get something in return for doing a good deed. You're okay and that's all that matters to me." I said refusing to take the item.
"Oh no no dear I'm more than happy to give you this. If it weren't for you I wouldn't be here right now" the elderly woman stated. "Please take this as a gift for your act of kindness" the guy chimed in.
At this point, I couldn't refuse to accept the gift so I decided to take it. "Thank you so much for this. I'll take care of it" I said. "We should be the one thanking you though. We have to go now. Take care" the guy responded as he started to leave. "Haha, thanks." I replied and
with that, I finally headed towards my home.*・゜゚・*:.。..。.:*・・*:.。. .。.:*・゜゚・* *・゜゚・*:.。..。.:*・・*:.。. .。.:*・゜゚・*
