Within the realm of Svartalfheim, among the population of the dark elves there was a rumored ancient prophecy. The prophecy stated that they would one day take over and rule Asgard, but on one condition. They would be victorious, if and only if they could keep the youngest prince from falling in love. No one knew why their victory depended on something so silly but nevertheless they were desperate so they always believed it.
They waited years for the young prince to mature, always keeping an eye on him in secret. It seemed no matter how long they waited nothing happened. They began to believe that the prophecy would never come to light and that they would be safe. Until one day they received a message: The Prince Loki had a very close female friend.
Malakith, the leader of the dark elves, sent a message in reply. "Bring her to us." They couldn't take the chance of him falling in love with this mystery woman. She must be assasinated immediately. And Malakith planned on doing it himself.

Being Loki's friend was interesting to say the least. It started on a business trip. You were a seamstress from another realm that had been hired by the queen herself. You were staying in the royal palace and decided to visit the library in your free time, there you met Loki. You were mesmerized by his black hair and green eyes, finding them easy to get lost in. What started as small talk over books turned into hour long conversations over miscellaneous topics, visiting each other's rooms at night to talk more. It was like you two just clicked, like two puzzle pieces.
———
The two of you were currently sat under a large tree, your back against the trunk and his head sat on your lap. He was laying with his eyes closed as you read to him. Shakespeare was his favorite author and he loved him even more when his words came from your mouth. The two of you sat like that for hours until the sun began to set on the horizon.Looking down whilst taking a breath you stop reading, noticing his breathing had become slower and his mouth peaked open just slightly. He had fallen asleep while you read. This didn't surprise you, he constantly complained that sleep didn't come easy to him unless he was with you.
You admired his features, gently stroking a hand through his hair. You were lucky to have today off or you might've missed this moment. Your eyes glanced over his defined jaw, the light hitting his pale skin just right. He was truly beautiful. It didn't take you long at all to develop feelings for him. Once you got past his cocky facade and his "I don't need anyone's help" attitude you learned he was truly just a sad, lonely man in need of true friendship, and you were determined to give it to him.
Noticing the sun has almost sunk completely beyond the horizon, you gently shake Loki awake.
"Loki, it's time to wake up, dinner will be done soon and your mother will be expecting us back."
His eyes opened slowly before taking in his surroundings, a smile making its way to his face when he met eyes with you. He stood up, offering a hand to you.
"My apologies (Y/n), you simply make me so relaxed I can't help myself. Let us get going, it's quite a decent walk back to the palace." He helped you up and you two walked back together.
"You know Loki, we can always have a sleepover if you want. I know you said you sleep better when I'm around so maybe it'll help." You offered with a shrug.
He looked away for a second to hide the slight red tint that had made its way to his cheeks.
"I appreciate the offer (Y/n), in fact I think I'll take you up on it. I'll have a maid put some extra blankets in your chambers." He said with a smile.
"Whatever would you need them for?" You had a confused look on your face.
"Well it would be quite uncomfortable to sleep on the floor without padding to lay down." He said that as if it was obvious. You shook your head at his foolishness.
"We can share the bed dummy, I'm not letting the prince of Asgard sleep on the floor. Your father would have my head if he found out."
"I'm sure father would have mine if he found out I was simply sleeping in your room." He said, shaking his head at your words.
The two of you continued to the palace in comfortable silence. Heading straight to the dinning hall, weird glances sent your way as you two arrived together.
The royal family always looked at you two strangely when you were together. And dinner was no different. Loki had never been so sociable at dinner until you showed up, now you two chatted away. Once your conversation was finished Frigga spoke.
"(Y/n) I need your presence in the fitting room after dinner, I need you to make some adjustments on a gown I wish to wear a few days from now." She gave you a kind smile as she spoke.
"Of course my Queen, I'll be there right away." You replied. You loved working with the queen, she was always very kind to you and made you feel welcomed. It was a pleasant change compared to some other clients you'd seen.
The thought of other clients reminded you that your time here was short lived. The thought formed a pit in your stomach. You were only scheduled to be here another week or so depending on what all the queen needed from you. The idea of leaving Loki made you sick to your stomach.
You didn't eat anymore until dinner was over and everyone was allowed to leave. You whispered to Loki that you'd meet him in your room once you were done with the queen and he agreed. You immediately went to the throne room where you waited for Frigga to arrive.
She wanted some simple size alterations done which didn't take anytime at all. She sat with you while you did them so she could try the dress on when you were done.
"So (Y/n), I've noticed you've gotten very close to Loki lately. Is that right?" She asked in a soft tone.
"Yes ma'am, we get along quite well." You responded nervously.
"My son doesn't get along with just anyone. Let alone talk with them with so much passion. Please take care of him (Y/n), I know he seems tough but he's very fragile." She placed a hand on your shoulder. A kind smile on her lips.
Her words made you blush, nodding your head before you spoke.
"I plan on sending him a lot of messages and keeping in touch once I return to my own realm." You say with a sad smile on her face. Your words cause her own smile to grow wider.
"That's another thing I wanted to talk to you about. Your work here this last week has been amazing and I would love it if you came to work for me full time." She said looking at you. She watched as the largest smile grew on your face.
"You mean it?" You ask, slightly dazed from the news she just broke to you. She simply nodded her head and you almost jumped for joy. You did however give her a huge hug. She returned it with a laugh at your excitement.
You finished your work quickly after that, you raced down the hall so excited to tell Loki the news. You wouldn't have to leave him after all, you could stay and you guys could-
Your train of thought was cut off at the sound of someone crying. It sounded like a girl. It didn't help that the hallway was dark, you followed the sound, concern filling your being. After twisting and turning down a few hallways you finally came across the form of a young girl. She was facing away from you but you could still very clearly hear her cries. She had the outfit of a maid. You approached her carefully.
"Ma'am, are you alright? Did something happen?" She didn't answer your questions but kept crying. You walked closer to her and placed your hand on her shoulder. That's the last thing you remember as you fall unconscious.
