Soulmate Au!
Every time your soulmate lies, the words appear on your skin

You first learnt about soulmates when you were very little. Always told stories about how people had met theirs and that it'd be the happiest day of your life. Now you're twenty two and still haven't met your soulmate yet. Oh but you've seen messages many times over the years. Typically it would be normal things like,'I didn't break it.' or 'I push him down the hill' One really strange one you got was 'I swear I didn't turn into a snake and stab him.' But children have really active imaginations so who knows. As time went on and you got older you saw some stranger ones. 'I hate you brother.' 'You can't come back, mother forbids it.' Soon after that you were recruited by the Avengers and you stopped paying much attention to it.

You felt slightly nervous as you quickly made your way to director Fury's office. You'd hoped to delay the meeting as much as possible due to your nerves but you knew that making him wait would only make him more upset.

You knew you really had no reason to be, seeing as you were an Avenger and he couldn't hurt you in any way. But you'd never been called to his office, or even S.H.I.E.L.D headquarters since you were recruited into the Avengers to begin with. It was quite the long journey here and you just wanted to go back home.

The end of your walk to his office came quicker than you had hoped. You could already hear him shouting at someone in his office. You hesitantly knocked on the door, the noise on the other side falling silent immediately. Your heart almost stopped in your chest as you waited for an answer.

"Come in." That was Fury's voice. He didn't seem nearly as angry as before.

Opening the door slowly you walked in and closed it behind you, taking a moment to take in your surroundings. His office was pretty bare. There was a photo of him and a cat sitting on the desk. There were also stacks of paperwork in a bunch of separate piles covering almost all of his visible desk space.

"(L/n), glad to see you made it okay." His tone was surprisingly soft as he motioned for you to sit in the chair in front of his desk.

"Thank you Sir, if I may ask why I was called to headquarters?" You asked, trying to tread lightly. Fury isn't a bad guy, he just has a very short temper.

"I'm sure you're aware of a certain god's attempt to conquer our planet?" He held a file in his hands looking through it as he spoke.

"Yes Sir, I didn't get to fight him myself but I was there when it happened." It was the truth. You hadn't seen him yourself or even faced him at all, but you were in the midst of the battle. Your power allows you to dive into other people's minds as well as their memories. It's not of great use in the heat of battle but due to your intense training you still had a lot of skills. You were tasked with the job of protecting the civilians and sometimes the team from the chitauri.

"Well, since that day when the other avengers apprehended him he's been held here."

"With all due respect Sir I'm not seeing how I play a part in any of this." He finally closed the file he had been holding and slid it your way.

"Since that day, Loki has refused to give us any information. We've even tried our more extraordinary measures but nothing has worked. That's where you come in. We need you to dive into Loki's mind and find the answers to our questions. All of which are located in that file there. I'll give you twenty minutes to look it over before we send you in. I'll be back when it's time." He stood as he spoke, giving you absolutely no time to protest as he walked out the door, slamming loudly behind him causing you to jump in your seat.

With a sigh your hand ran through your hair, a nervous habit you picked up as a child. You opened the file and immediately began going through it in order.

Description:
Height: 6ft 4
Hair: Black
Eyes: Blue
Home: Asgard

You read over every detail you could, including the reports from the other Avengers that were included in the file. You didn't know how long you had been looking over the details but it seemed like only a few minutes. This guy seemed like a total jerk. You had gathered that he was rude, powerful, ruthless, and just overall something else. But what else can you expect from someone who killed eighty people in two days.

You closed the file with a sigh, massaging your skull trying to keep the dull ache in your head at bay. The door opened and director Fury walked in.

"I hope you're ready (L/n), this guy is a piece of work, but I'm sure you know that already. Follow me." He began walking out the door and down the hallway, you scrambled after him, the file pressed against your chest as you two walked in silence. After a few mindless twists and turns and an elevator ride down a few levels you finally reached a thick metal door.

"Loki is just through that door, we moved him into an interrogation room and chained him up for your comfort, we also have people watching 24/7 and armed guards will be right outside the door. If you need a break or to step outside knock on the door twice. Goodluck (L/n)." He placed a reassuring hand on your shoulder before nodding to the guards. An anxious pit made its home in your stomach as they unlocked and opened the door.
You instantly made eye contact with him, he looked just like his description, but somehow not what you expected. His hair was longer than expected, it was slicked back and went a little past his shoulders. His blue eyes were full of anger and hatred. His lips were thin but complimented his defined jawline well. He was on the thin side but definitely had some bulk to him. You couldn't deny that he was quite beautiful. You pulled the chair out and sat across from him. You could feel his eyes boring into you, watching your every movement like a predator watches its prey. It sent chills down your spine. You set the file in between you two but closer to you than him so he couldn't grab at it.

"So Loki, it looks like we're gonna be talking for a little, I'm (Y/n) it's nice to meet you." It wasn't really but you had to make a good impression. The walls were a bleak gray, suitable for an interrogation room.

"I can't say the same mortal. I don't know what tactic you plan on using, your other teammates already tried and failed." His eyes were as cold as the words he was saying to you.

"Well I just wanted to ask you a few questions. Was anyone else working with you when you attacked New York?" Your tone and eyes both held kindness.

"That's none of your business. You're better off leaving now mortal. Let me make it clear. I. Don't. Want. You. Here." His eyes never left you. You rolled your eyes, you felt a small sting on your wrist. That always happens when your soulmate tells a lie. At least, it's always been that way for you. You looked down, his eyes followed yours but you made sure he couldn't see what you were looking at. You pulled back your black sleeve and a breath left your lips. There, in all black letters was one single sentence.
'I don't want you here.' Your eyes widened and you looked back at him. Getting up without a word, you knocked twice on the door and the guards let you out.

You walked straight past Fury, ignoring his attempts to speak to you. You found the bathroom and approached the sink. Splashing some cold water on your face you looked at your reflection.
'Of course, I've waited all my life for this moment and my soulmate just so happens to not only be a god but a criminal as well. Great. Fantastic even.' You thought to yourself, pacing around the bathroom.

Finally composing yourself you opened the door, Fury stood there waiting for you.

"What the hell was that about (L/n)?" He asked with his arms crossed.

"Sorry Sir, just a little bump in the plan. I'm headed back right now where I plan to infiltrate his mind like you asked." He shook his head and followed you back to the room. He didn't say anything as he walked inside.

"Back already? I thought you'd had enough." Loki taunted you but you paid him no mind. His wrists were strapped down to the table. He had a smug look on his face until you grabbed his hand.

"What do you think you're doing?!" He asked in an alarmed tone. Neither of you had time to process the question as he fell unconscious and you entered the dark depths of his mind.
