I ran into the hospital and up to the reception desk. I asked for my mom and she told me that she was being held on the fourth floor. Thanking her I ran towards the elevators and practically punched the buttons into the wall. I waited impatiently as the elevator came. Eli grabbed my hand sensing my uneasy mood.

"It's going to be okay, Raven. Stay positive." he says, and all I could do was nod in response. The elevator dinged and I waited as people got off and rushed inside again punching the button.

Once we got to the floor I ran to the reception desk and asked for my mom. The lady at the desk told me that she was in critical care and that the doctor was working on her. She apologized then and told me that I couldn't see her. I nearly burst into tears.

"Raven." I heard someone call my name and standing not to far from me stood Derek. When I saw him all my worries and my anxiety came crashing down on me.

"Derek." I cried and walked straight into his embrace, feeling comfort in his warm, and strong arms. I kept the tears at bay not wanting to show any weakness in front of him. I pulled back and looked at him.

"What happened? How did you find out about her?" I asked him. He was about to answer when Eli came up behind us, and Derek's eyes set into a hard glare.

"Raven, the doctor is here." Eli announced, and I turned around to see a tall, bald, dark colored man.

"I'm Doctor Erickson. Are you here for Lita Elmoure?" he asked. I stepped out of Derek's arms and nodded.

"Yes, I'm her daughter." I answer. He looked me over and then to Derek and then Eli.

"Are you the only living relative to her?" he asked. I sighed. Coudn't he just tell me about my mom already?

"No, she has a sister but she isn't here at the moment." I reply. He nods and seems as if he's come to a decision.

"Alright, could I have a word with you alone?" he asks. My only answer was a yes and I followed him to a more secluded space in the waiting room.

"Miss Elmoure, how long has your mother been suffering medical issues?" he asked. I thought back to the first time she fainted.

"Um, a couple months nearly a year. Why?" I respond. Doctor Erickson sighs and looks at me solemnly. Oh no.

"Has your mother gotten any treatment before?" he asks. I shake my head.

"We don't have money for it." I say honestly. Really, I was starting to think about how we were going to pay for this hospital bill.

"I see." he then sighs. "How old are you Miss Elmoure?" he asked. I cross my arms getting irritated.

"I'm 16, almost 17. Now what does this have to do with my mom?" I ask peeved.

"I'm sorry to be the one to tell you this but, your mother suffers from a serious case of brain cancer." he announced.

I stared at him for a few seconds until his message sunk in. My mom was dying. My hand flew to my mouth and the tears that were being shut up now were flooding down my cheeks. Doctor Erickson gave me a sympathetic look, but couldn't  do much else.

"I'm sorry. We will try to help her with surgeries and various treatments, but with the way things look there is a slim chance of her surviving." he added.

"Please, no. Please don't tell me that." I say, feeling my tears run down my face and my body begin to shake.

"I'm sorry." he said before my view of him was blocked by a tall built figure.

"No!" I shouted and I broke down.

Arms surrounded me and pressed me up against a warm, firm body as I begin to sob. My body shakes and aches from my sobbing, and all I feel is the soothing strokes of someone running their hand up and down my back.
