I lead Craig, or my dad - that is so weird to say - to the room mom was in. I didn't let him know that I was the daughter he was looking for. How was I even supposed to tell him? I just took him to the room like he asked. As I walked in, Aunt Clare walked up to me, with a little worried smile on her lips.
"Raven, Nichole is on her way here with Ben, I was wondering if you would," she stopped dead in her tracks when she looked up from her phone and saw who I was with. Her eyes were practically bulging out of her head.
"Clare." Craig greeted bowing his head to her a bit.
"Craig... Why are you... What are you doing here?" Aunt Clare asked.
Before Craig could answer a commotion was sounded from outside the door and Nichole came storming in, with Uncle Ben rushing after her. Uncle Ben was a good looking man but he was near his 50's and graying badly.
"Nicki," he called after her.
"Mom," Nichole whined walking past Craig and me, and walking up to her mother. "Dad won't let me go to Rachel's party, even after you said I could." she whined. I rolled my eyes at her. The Princess is at it again.
"Sweetie, please not now." Aunt Clare said, looking from Craig to Nichole. Nichole then turned to me, and noticed Craig standing next to me.
"Who's this?" she asked looking him over with a disapproved look on her face.
"Um, this is," Aunt Clare tried to figure out how to introduce him. She obviously didn't want her to know that Craig was her father as well. I didn't want Aunt Clare to worry over this.
"He's my dad." I say, and all eyes are on me even Craig's. "Nichole, Craig Anderson, Dad, Nichole." I introduce them and then look up at Craig. His expression showed surprise or shock, or maybe both.
"I'm Raven Elmoure, Lita's daughter." I say. "You're daughter."
"I-I didn't even," Craig said, sounding as if he were apologizing. I shook my head and shrugged at him.
"It's okay. Many people can't really tell what I look like because of the mask." I say, and walk to my mom's bedside. Derek and Francesca kept looking between Craig and me, but I ignored their curious glances.
"Since when did Raven have a dad?" Nichole asked, and I kept myself from replying to her snarkly.
"Sweetie, now is not the time nor place to pester Raven, or ... her father." Aunt Clare said, looking up at Craig still nervous about him.
Nichole looked Craig over and scrunched her face up in disgust - always being her judgmental self. I rolled my eyes and looked at mom. She was breathing just fine with the help of the machine, but she was still in a comatose state. I wish she could wake up, but then again I don't want her to wake up to this mess.
I gently stroke her hair, holding her hand. My eyes land on the charm bracelet around her wrist, then one I had gotten for her birthday. I gasp in realization. With everything going on, I forgot to celebrate her birthday. I squeeze her hand in an apology, and silently promise her that I will make up for it.
"You look a lot like her." I heard Craig's voice over my shoulder. I turn a little to look up at his face.
"Mom always told me that I looked like you." I watch as some kind of mixed emotion comes across his face.
"What happened," he pauses and points to his face, "You know with you." He said.
I can't help but feel a small amount of anger at his audacity to ask, but then again he is my dad. Mom wouldn't want me to be rude to him.
