Chapter 10
It was extra sunny for a Sunday afternoon, and everyone seemed to be in a good mood. Even my mom seemed happy and healthy today before she went off to work. Today just seemed like it was going to be a good day.
I decided to go to the mall today, and buy mom’s birthday present. It was coming up soon, and I wanted to have time to look around. So as I looked around the mall, my good mood was quickly decreasing. The things I wanted to her were too expensive, and the things she deserved I doubt I would ever be able to afford. I was starting to think I would never find her a present.
“Raven?” someone called my name. I looked around only to see the one person I thought I would never run into here. Eli.
“I thought it was you.” He chuckled, walking up to me.
“H-hi Eli. What are you doing here?” I asked surprised. He shrugged, and I noticed the white bag in his hand.
“I had to get a shirt for a friend. I, uh, lost a bet.” He said. I smiled at his bashful expression.
“Can I see it?” I asked. He sighed, and opened the bag.
“Might as well. You’ll be seeing it on the tour anyway.” He said, pulling out a pink “My Little Pony” shirt with a baby blue pony on it. I covered my mouth with my hand, stopping myself from laughing. Just picturing Eli in that shirt had me laughing.
“Go on, laugh it up and get it out of your system.” He said. I smiled and shook my head.
“It’s okay. I’ll save it for the tour.” I say, and he chuckles as he puts the shirt away.
“Speaking of, are you doing shopping for the tour?” he asked.
“No. Actually, I’m looking for a birthday present for my mom.” I reply, and he smiles wider.
“That’s nice, any luck?” he asks, and I shake my head.
“None so far. Everything I pick out nearly has me going bankrupt.” I explain. He smiles and nods as if he understood.
“Maybe I can help.” He suggested. I raised an eyebrow at him. “I’m not a bad shopper, if I do say so myself, and I am a college student. I know where all the cheap stuff is.” He said. I laughed at his joke.
“Okay. I guess I’ll need all the help I can get.” I say. He chuckles as we begin to walk.
“Hey Raven.” Someone else calls. My eyes widen and I stop in my tracks. That wasn’t who I thought it was, hopefully. I turn around to find Markus and Jordan walking towards us. Just great.
“What’s up Rae?” Jordan asked.
“We’re all at the food court. You should join in.” Markus added.
But then they both looked over and saw Eli.
“Oh, are we interrupting something?” Jordan asked, wagging his eyebrows at us.
“Come on Jordan. Sorry Rae didn’t mean to interrupt your date.” Markus said. I closed my eyes resisting the urge to knock them both senseless.
“Actually, we’re not,” Eli tried to explain, but the twins didn’t let him.
“Say no more. We will leave. Leaving you love birds alone.” Jordan said with a smirk.
“As Raven’s ex-boyfriend, I shall leave you with some advice.” Markus said.
“Oh, God.” I groan.
“Treat her with the respect and love she deserves.” He said, and then began to leave.
