You found yourself staring at Billy as he indulged mouthful after mouthful of pancakes with too much maple syrup to your liking.
Although he was technically your 489 variant's son, you couldn't help but notice the uncanny resemblance you had with the boy.
It didn't help when as you gazed on those little green orbs he had, you could see Wanda in them.
Wanda. You wondered how she would react if she'd see Billy in this universe. Maybe not as worse as you'd think when she found out she's your wife. You doubted she'd accept that.
You and Billy were currently at a small diner near the compound, deciding to have an early breakfast after hearing Billy's stomach growl.
Stephen left a couple of minutes ago because he received an urgent call from Kamar-Taj, leaving you with little to no explanation as to how the boy got into this universe.
"Here you go, dear," the old waitress announced as she placed a plate of banana split ice cream on the center of the table.
"Thank you," the boy said, his smile reaching his ears. You noticed his dimples deepen as the waitress commented on how adorable he was.
It occured to you that you and Wanda would have adorable children. And it was nice to pretend that it was really happening to you.
Billy immediately shoved a spoonful of ice cream into his mouth.
"What do they feed you there, kid?" you muttered to yourself as you continued to just stare at him.
"Mommy," he called out to you, not hearing your side comment. "When can we go back to Auntie Nat's house? I wanna go play with Kate again. She promised me last time she'd teach me how to use a bow and arrow..."
You swore you just heard him say Natasha's name in there.
"Her dad's been teaching her for days and she's really good, Mom, I think you should see it."
"Hey, hey," you gently said, stopping him as he started to grab his sixth spoon of ice cream. "Too much sugar, you're going to be awake for hours."
The boy just giggled as he obeyed, licking his spoon clean.
When Stephen came back at the diner with a long face, you knew something was immediately wrong. But he pretended to sound okay as he asked Billy.
"Tummy's all good, now?"
And Billy ecstatically replied, "Yes! And Mom let me have ice cream!"
You knew you and Stephen had a lot to discuss so after paying for the bill, Stephen portaled you back to your room in the compound. Everyone was still fast asleep when you arrived.
It was 4am when Billy lost his energy from the sugar rush and gave up to sleep. The last thing he muttered before his eyes drifted to close was how he hated what he did when he travelled with Wong. And that he really missed you for days, he thought you wouldn't come back. It didn't make sense to you at the moment so you just nodded.
As you tucked him under the blankets in your own bed, you couldn't help but feel domestic about all of it, pretending that just for one time, Billy's really your son. Even if you were just a single mother, you wouldn't trade him for anything in the world.
You smiled down at him after you placed a small kiss on his forehead.
A knock on the door and Stephen's face peering right through sent you a sense of urgency.
You knew you'd lose the kid in the end too. He had to get back to his own universe where he belonged, right?
The last thing you wanted was to get attached.
