It hurt when Wanda kept on ignoring you through the following days. Days that turned into weeks.

And when you saw her in other universes and pretended you were your variant, it was a dream come true shortlived by a very adamant Stephen mentioning the risks and ripples that your actions could cause to other universes.

Maybe your Wanda was right. Maybe you were obsessed with her. You were obsessed with the idea of growing a family with her.

Your power that you now had grown to hate put that seed of hope into your mind, making your heart ache when she pretended that you didn't exist.

"Are you still mad?"

After two months of complete silence and persistent avoidance, you couldn't help but corner her one afternoon when the whole team other than you, Wanda and Tony were on a mission.

Wanda went on watching her sitcoms in the living room, ignoring you.

"I'm sorry if I ever made you uncomfortable," you began. She didn't need to know about the other universes. About her as your wife. "But, putting all the flirtings I attempted previously aside, I cared about Pietro. I really do. He was more like a brother to me... and you know that."

The mention of his name made Wanda's shoulders tense. You were walking through eggshells. But you continued.

"He was also my best friend, Wanda. He was special to me. And to think that you thought I didn't care about him at all and you being his sister, is just as painful to me as his death was."

It took her long before she looked at you and murmured, "I'm sorry. I just... it hurts. It still hurts..."

"I know."

"And it sucks when I can hear other people's thoughts and I couldn't hear his anymore." She bit back a sob.

You approached and sat beside her, placing a comforting hand on her tensed shoulder which then relaxed upon contact.

She chuckled softly as she went on.

"It's just funny because I used to get mad at him and his loud thoughts and now they were the only ones that I missed. I had to go through this shit again after we lost our parents... And now I'm all alone surrounded by everyone's thoughts that I didn't even want to hear."

Then tears started to fall down her cheeks as she broke out a sob. You opened your arms around for her to cling into, rubbing her back as she cried into your shirt. You wanted to make her better. You wanted to tell her it's gonna be alright. And that you'll never leave her as long as she's still grieving. Even after that.

You wanted her to be happy again. You wanted her to know that she's not alone and that you'd always love her no matter what.

That made her flinch and push herself away from your chest. She quickly wiped her tears with her hands as she apologized to you.

You told her you didn't mind. And you ended up telling her that you'd always be there for her.

Wanda slowly nodded as she licked her lips. "Y/n."

"Hm?"

"I want you to... I want you to stop your... your silly attempts to court me."

You didn't know she could still hurt you more.

"I-"

"No, Y/n. I want you to understand," she said as she looked at you through your eyes. "I'm not looking for someone, I'm not looking for a relationship right now... I just.. It's not my thing even before.. and especially now that my brother's death still affects me..."

"Wanda, I understand... I completely understand, you don't even have to worry about that," you said rather quickly with a small chuckle, cutting her off.

And she gave you a genuine smile as she thanked you.

You knew how it felt losing someone. And you were willing to give her more time.

And time was all you had to give to her. You spent your extra hours with Wong practicing how to fortify your mind so Wanda couldn't hear your thoughts as loud as before. That you still knew she's going to be a big part of your life and she doesn't even have to know.

Until Vision came into the picture about a month after your reconciliation with Wanda.

You didn't even see him as a threat at the start. You and Natasha even laughed when you three were drinking, as he mentioned his plans on asking Wanda on a date. You even bid him the best of luck, knowing Wanda doesn't do relationships at the time being.

What made your migraine the following day worse other than from drinking was the cheerful announcement from Vision to the two of you that Wanda said yes to his invitation.

You were mad.

You were jealous.

You were confused.

As you looked at Wanda and Vision laughing in the kitchen while preparing for dinner, you felt betrayed.

This was your wife he's flirting with.

And of course, you forced a smile their way when they're looking at you because how could you not. You didn't own Wanda as much as her feelings.

You ended up taking more missions from Steve just to keep your mind busy and not be left alone in the compound.

When you found out Wanda and Vision were now in a serious relationship, seeing them cuddling while watching sitcoms on the sofa and the farewell kisses Wanda sent Vision his way when he leaves for a mission, it had finally sink in.

This was a universe where you and Wanda will never ever be together.
