Back at home, Evie had stripped herself of the dirty work clothes and gotten a nice hot shower in before settling down for the night. Leftover Chinese was to be her dinner and as expected, several of her favorite gaming YouTubers had uploaded stuff to their channels so she'd have lots of stuff to keep her busy that night. Though it wasn't quite 5:30pm, Evie was dressed now in long pajama pants with her long honey blonde hair still wrapped up in the towel she had dried herself with. She was perched up on the counter, reading through some of the comments on some of her more recent portraits while waiting for the food to heat up."Love your work! Always get so excited when you post! :)))))"
"It's so colorful and pretty <3"
It felt nice to see all these comments. She'd been working on her page for nearly 6 years now and had well over a thousand followers that interacted quite often with her work. It always felt good to read or even re-read the comments left behind. Her art wasn't anything super exciting in her own opinion. She did portraits of people and dabbled in abstract pieces or would occasionally upload some of her music pieces to YouTube. She gets comments often, likes and a few dislikes here and there. But it was enough for her. The more she thought about what Kelsey had said that day, the more she thought how silly it was. The microwave beeps. "Who needs a boyfriend anyway?" Evie thinks to herself, "I might end up with another stupid one."
Getting off the counter, she shuts the app down and scrolls mindlessly over to the bright red gradient Tinder app on the very last page of her home screen. It seemed to taunt her. Asking for her to open it. A quick glance at her surroundings follows and she smiles shyly. Evie opens the app and without hesitation she hits the "Make an Account" button. With her warmed food in hand she heads over to the couch and excitedly fills out her information. As stupid as she thought it was, there was something very exciting about it. Her heart was thumping wildly in her chest. She picks out her favorite photos of herself. Evie thought she was relatively pretty. Nowhere near a 10 but not a 3. She thought of herself as a 5. It wasn't super often that you met a girl who stood at nearly 6 feet tall and while it didn't happen often, there had been a few instances where a second date hadn't happened due to her stature.
Sometimes she wished she was smaller. Like Kelsey who stood at a measly 5ft tall.
At least she liked her face. She had pale skin and a few freckles here and there on her face with blueish-green eyes that had brown speckling on the inside. Something she'd inherited from her mother. It was her one favorite feature about herself. Everything else, she thought, could use some work. Every part of her was skinny, and she had a small chest that just didn't seem to fit into any bra. It just didn't fit with the standard people were looking for these days. Guys wanted bigger girls on social media. What if she was too small? What if people thought she was starving herself intentionally?
Her profile is up now and though she was excited, the nervousness seemed to be slowly overtaking her thoughts. It couldn't be any worse than her last boyfriend. The first man pops up and he's... underwhelming. She swipes. She swipes again. And again, and again. Suddenly, she'd forgotten about her food and the videos she was going to watch. She matched with a few guys. Hesitated to message them. There was a nurse, a guy who claimed to be going to Harvard, and a cute one who was unfortunately wearing a cowboy hat. But she'd let it slide. In a matter of minutes, she gets a response from him. Of course.
"Hey cutie," he says, "Wyd?"
Lazy. But she'd bite. She was bored. Evie finally sits down on the couch.
"Nothing much," she replied, "Watching some YT before bed. What about you?"
"Aw, that's cool." he types as Evie goes back to his profile. His name was Connor and he was 24. A few years older than herself but not too far off that it was creepy. He didn't say what kind of job he had, but there was a photo with him and a big fluffy German Shepherd that was named Bose. Maybe he wouldn't be so bad?
