Fated or Something

Evie was not a heavy sleeper. Just about anything could wake her up in the dead of the night. A pencil falling. The fridge door being opened even though the door is shut. She was even known to wake up from Kelsey walking past her room at night. The only time she really ever slept hard was after she drank. Something about alcohol just knocked her out and though she'd never admit it to anyone directly; for her it was a very good way to get some sleep when she was feeling anxious.

When she woke up the next morning, the effects of the wine she'd drank last night were still wreaking havoc on her system. Usually it was something she'd just sleep off until her head stopped pounding but this morning was much, much different. Along with the pounding in her head going off non-stop there was this very annoying, droning buzzing noise that seemed to be vibrating her brain. It would stop for a few moments and then start back up again a few minutes later. Eventually, she opens her eyes to gaze up at the ceiling ahead and for a moment she's very confused. This isn't my ceiling, she thought to herself. The familiar popcorn patterned ceiling was no more and was instead replaced with a smooth one.

Slowly, Evie pushes herself up into a seated position and rubs her hands up and down her face with a small sigh. This wasn't her bed, and it wasn't her apartment either. Unfortunately this situation was something she was very familiar with. Past parties she'd attended had stuck her in plenty of sticky situations and being in bed with a strange man was strange but... definitely not uncommon for her. In the bed next to her was a figure that was twisted around a pile of blankets with his back to her. Thankfully from what she could see, he wasn't naked but he had his back facing her. A puff of fuzzy brown curls was all she could see on the pillow and he was snoring ever so slightly.

The buzzing starts again and Evie soon recognizes that it's a phone and that the noise is coming from downstairs. Maybe it was her phone. And then it all comes flooding back to her. Right, this was a date. And I slept with him. Josh. Just as his name comes to her, Josh grunts a bit and rolls over in bed to now face her. He mumbles something incoherent under his breath before his face relaxes once more, letting his mouth open just a bit. Evie felt her heart skip a beat and her face heats up. He was really cute. Like... really, really cute. I know we have to go get my car but he looks so peaceful. Maybe... I could make him breakfast?

Evie slides out of the sheets and onto the floor that she carefully tiptoes across to the bathroom. Last night was fuzzy, and she didn't exactly remember every piece. It was coming back little by little. At least the sex was good. But she wasn't sure how she got in this shirt. It definitely wasn't hers and it didn't fit very well. It was a big black shirt with the Fender logo on the front in white lettering. She smiled to herself. More often than not, the shirts her boyfriends loaned her were too big but this one barely covered her thighs. He really was short. It was kinda cute. Evie finished up in the bathroom and tiptoed across the floor to the stairs.

The buzzing starts up again on the second to last step. She follows the noise to the living room area and sees the culprit vibrating away on the coffee table. But it wasn't her phone. The contact said "Jake" and when the call finally ended, she curiously tapped the screen twice and saw that this "Jake" had called 5 times already. She frowned. Maybe she should wake him up. He'd mentioned yesterday he had brothers and one was a twin but she couldn't remember if it was Jake or Sam. Evie grabbed her phone and checked the home screen to find she had even more missed calls. Twenty to be exact. All from Kelsey. A bunch of texts too.

"Shit..." she muttered under her breath, quickly unlocking the screen and dialing Kelsey's contact. Unsurprisingly, Kelsey picked up in less than two rings. "Where the hell have you been?!" she demanded into the phone, nearly bursting Evie's ear drum.
